For now you can run this in a QEMU VM set to emulate x86

What's the performance like?

not the best as you have to emulate an x86 processor but it should be pretty good depending on your arm device

try GNOME or KDE if this is a GNOME ISO

If youre not using it for the android functionality you may want to use a iso with a de thats much lighter weight the pi has poor performance with gnome so i imagine kde will be much much worse

gnome is generally heavier than kde but yeah i would recommend trying xfce, lxqt or mate editions those just don't support the android functionality at the moment

Really? Ive used gnome on pretty much everything... this us my first time using kde but the de seems to be much more resource hungry; though i guess i have quite a few extras i dont normally run either. 😅
