Installing steam as if was a game. Is it possible?
The title says it all. I tried installing steam on macos as if it was a game by selecting the steam exe when prompted to select executable. The installation worked fine, but when starting steam it crashed due to an error with steamwebhelper.exe. Has anyone tried this before and got it working?

Should work, I am doing it right now while testing the gaming porting kit.
You should use first the button RUN INSTALLER FIRST.
Then run the steam installer.
After that, on select EXE, go to the prefix that was created now after running the EXE, go to drive_c/program files(x86)/Steam and select the Steam.exe
then click finish

Thats exactly what I did! But right after the small login banner, steam crashes with the error shown in the image.

Try opening WINECFG on the game settings and then change the windows version to 10. Maybe try a different wine version.

I tried setting the windows version to 10 in WINECFG but the result is the same. It worked however when I manually ran wine and used
wine64
command to start steam.
Since it worked for you could you maybe, if you have the game, check if theres a noticeable input delay when playing The Binding of Isaac Repentance? I tested it on wine it there was some delay and wanted to try it on Heroic since it comes with crossover wine and the game works with minimal input delay on Crossover app.foreign-sapphire•2y ago
I don't have this game to test though
Maybe, on heroic, make the game settings as clean as possible. Disable the checkmarks there and just enable dxvk
Or try without it as well

Still the same issue. Oh well, I'll have to come back to it at a later time. Thank you for your efforts
