Icewindale Enhanced Edition winePrefix issue
Hi,
Having an issue with Icewindale EE and saved games. Every time I close down Heroic all saves and ingame option setting are lost. As others have done in here I've already tried changing the default winePrefix folder (image attached), with no luck.
The game log (attached) appears to show that the wine settings are not being detected and the winePrefix folder is set to default, despite the change in the Heroic default game settings.
I've also attached the Heroic log if that helps, although other games eg Baulder's Gate 2 EE, run and save with no issues.
I'm running Linux Mint 21.1 Cinnamon 5.15.0-73-generic.
Any help much appreciated.

that's native games for you
I think the game has hard coded save path in home directory

^
Also, default settings only apply to newly installed games, which this note on the page tells you

you need to find out what it is, and give proper permission in Flatseal

I've tried a reinstall also

Oh this was just a general explanation of how default settings work, your real issue is what @Linguin said (you're playing a native game, so whatever Wineprefix you set doesn't matter as this game doesn't use Wine)
Judging by the game log & PCGW, the game saves to
~/.local/share/Icewind Dale - Enhanced Edition
So you'd have to allow access to that path in Flatsealrare-sapphire•2y ago
PCGamingWiki states
$XDG_DATA_HOME/Icewind Dale - Enhanced Edition/save/
which looks incorrect (we have this issue)
do what @CommandMC said, and you should be good to goambitious-aqua•2y ago
Well the game is definitely looking into that folder
INFO: scanning:(0) /home/mike/Games/Heroic/Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition/game/override

that directory doesn't exist. I did try creating it also but no change. I'm new to Linux, whats flatsteal?

it's a tool that allows you to modify permissions of the applications
you should be able to install it like Heroic

ok thanks will look into that and see how I get on 👍

that directory doesn't existYup, that's the point. The game tries to save to that folder, but since you're using Flatpak, it doesn't have access to your home folder, so it instead saves into a temporary directory that's cleared every time you restart Heroic With Flatseal you can give Heroic access to write to that folder (the game runs in the same container as Heroic, so giving Heroic access will also give the game access), so then saves should persist

OK great thank you
Working now 👍
