Collar Over Sweater

What are your thoughts on wearing the collar over the sweater/crewneck when layering with a button-down? It kinda looks like a rugby shirt. I saw it online, and I kinda liked the idea of it. Should I intentionally go for this look? What style would it be under? Would I be able to do this with a polo? Will I get completely bullied and outcasted by everybody if I showed up with this?

It can look fine. It's worth noting in both of those pictures they're styling some classic/ivy elements in a more streetwear way, and the collar adds to the effect given by the trainers they're wearing If this is your thing I'd look at some Aime Leon Dore lookbooks for more inspo

I second whocaults opinion. Even before I ever took fashion seriously, I would always style my collars like this. Nowadays I keep them inside, but it's all preference. If you like it, do it.

The bigger the collar, the better it works

Ivy Boy is a series by Aaron Chang. You can find him on ig. If this is your thing, I’d recommend looking into “City Boy” as well

Experiment. Post fits and see what works. OCBDs often have kinda small collars and I agree you want a bigger collar here Picture 2 you posted looks like it is a button down collar though. And the reduced formality + preppiness of Oxford cloth helps

A button down collar isn’t going to pop out over your sweater because its… buttoned down. If you wanted to unbutton it you certainly could, but I’m not so sure you’d get the look you want. Imo, I think this is something better achieved with larger and more spread collars. At a certain point tho it gets a little 70’s, and a nice collar roll underneath probably looks better visually To answer your Q’s more specifically: - you can go for it intentionally if you want to. It’s a fine look, depending on your persuasion. - The style is pretty dependent on the rest of the wardrobe. Look at more Ivy/trad stuff for classic influence, and designer / streetwear for more modern. - Depends on the polo. Not totally out of the picture - it’s decently common to wear a sweater over a short sleeve and with shorts in some styles, especially in the morning. It could totally work. - you’d probably fit in just fine.
