Proper Usage of "Albums on Device" section.
Hi y'all! Just got Immich setup and running. Reverse proxy and uploads all work perfectly.
I'm just trying to learn how to properly use Immich, coming from Google Photos.
In Google Photos: there is a "Library" tab, and within that, there is a "Photos on this Device" section where it shows ALL of the albums on my phone, whether or not their being backed up to Google. In this way, it can act as a gallery for my local photos, as well as a gallery for my backed up photos.
In Immich: there is a "Library" tab, and within that, there is an "Albums on Device" section. Currently, it seems to ONLY show albums that have been selected to be backed up to my server. So, it seems that it can ONLY be a gallery viewer for backed up photos, and not for local photos.
Is that on purpose? If so, then I'm basically expected to use Immich as a backup service, and view the backups, and then just use Samsung Gallery/Google Photos apps to view local stuff?
P.S. I did search the forum, but nothing seemed to be regarding my query.
Thank you in advance ๐

The reason I ask is because once I get Immich fully setup, I'm only gonna back up my Camera folder most likely, and not screenshots etc. But I still regularly go into my screenshots folder, etc.
There's nothing that really prohibits immich from showing you all device albums even if not selected for backup. It's just nobody has bothered to implement it in the app.
Immich is perfectly capable to show the local photos - however currently only albums marked for backup are shown. It is however not required that the photos are actually backed up already
Ah, cool. Thanks for answering!
Know if there's any plans to implement? Or should I add it to the feature request?
If there is no such feature request already, it's fine to add it.
I think there is a request for this already

Make it possible to view local photos, that are not backed up by Immich. Now you need to open your phones Gallery app for that. Google Photos also has this feature under, Library > Photos on dev...
