iOS app not automatically backing up unless app is opened.
I have recently noticed an issue where Immich is not actually uploading my assets unless the app itself is opened. I have upload notifications turned on, so I get the "Backing up your assets..." but it stays at 0%., I don't know exactly when this started happening but it was fairly recently.
I do not see any errors in the logs, and as soon as I open the app, both internal and external to my network, the upload works perfectly fine. No changes in my stack other than updating the containers periodically.
Server version is 1.77.0
App version is 1.76.0 build.116

That is a known issue with the current version and a fix is already in progress, so it should be fixed in the next version: https://github.com/immich-app/immich/pull/4038

Thanks, I just found that myself. Hopefully we get a fix soon. It's not a huge deal for ME since I know how to get around it. My wife, on the other hand.....LOL
Since new versions are coming out quite often I'm pretty sure you don't have to wait too long :) In the meantime you can enable foreground backups and have the app open until all images are backed up.
For sure, that's what I have been doing before researching the issue. I have foreground and background on for both phones. That works great, so our images are backed up. I just have to remind her to open the app at times....hah.
@amdhunter1989 A new update has just been released! So you just have to look for an update in the app store :) This may sometimes take some time.

Has the ios app been updated to 1.78.0 too? I understood that only the server received the update
The iOS app won't be updated afaik since Alex is on holiday and doesn't have access to his Apple 2FA codes
actually I put in the sim card and get the code for 2FA from Apple for this update, it is being reviewed and will be released later

I just don't get it: I updated the server to 1.78.0. But the background update still doesn't work on my iPhone. Do I have to wait for the iOS app update?

because background task is invoked by the phone OS
not from the Immich server
