gutter spacing issue

Hey, i have a

utility class that allows the integration of gutters between elements. i've applied it to a div that wraps around some of the main sections i want to be spaced apart called

. However the spacing between my first two sections (the hero and features section) seems to be controlled by the gutter spacing value of the hero section inside whilst the rest works as needed.
