Extrusion issues after retraction

I'm printing a fairly large piece of plastic, and after a layer is complete, the machine will move the nozzle to the starting place for the next layer. I am noticing that for about 150mm after the new layer is starting, the extruder starts skipping, causing a small area on the final part that has terrible layer density. Any ideas on how to solve this issue? You can see the issue on both of these parts. Notice that the layers are all messed up on the area I'm focused on, but are normal in other areas. This is because this is the area where a new layer begins

Well, typically if your extruder is skipping, you are trying to flow more plastic through the nozzle than is possible for the given temp & speed that you are printing at. This could also be a artifact of poorly tuned PA, but if your extruder is skipping, you'll need to address that first.

@sherbs i looked at my slicer settings and my retraction speed was 40ms which might have something to do with it hey @sherbs , mind if I ask what you mean by EM?

My bad, I wrote EM but meant PA I'll edit my post

no worries @sherbs turns out this issue was due to my retraction length

Care to explain why and what you changed?

@andyc5461 Sure! I changed my retraction length from about 4mm to about .5mm which has helped a lot. This prevents the machine from pulling the filament in too far during a retraction. The lower the retraction length, the faster it will come back out when the retraction is over.
