you need to install wine from the heroic wine manager
"wineVersion": { "bin": "", "name": "Default Wine - Not Found", "type": "wine" },
and then you need to set that wine (preferrably wine-ge-latest) in the game's settings page

Ok I’ll try this when I get home, thanks for the help

Your wine prefix folder is wrong too It’s missing the game name. It looks like you checked the use defaults button

This log was from after I uninstalled the game, which was running fine, then stop. So I used the default settings to see if it was something I did. What’s the format to use cause I’m brand new to using heroic

Wine manager and downloaded (Wine-GE-Latest). In the settings menu I point the custom wine/proton path to the folder where I downloaded the latest wine mentioned above

you do not need to do that second step you just need to select wine-ge-latest from the dropdown menu in the game's settings page

Ok I’ll try it now Still not doing anything, it goes from blue (Play Now Button) flashes yellow for a second or two then goes back to blue I just tried it using Proton GE Latest and it kinda booted then auto close

dont just randomly change prefix types if you dont know what they do.. a log from your wine-ge attempt would be good

Ok I think that I had used the proton-ge when I first installed and ran the game back in June, so I did a run using that setup to see if that was the issue. My question is do the prefix auto update, if so would rolling back to a previous version help at all?

the prefix stays at the version you set it to. But mixing prefixes from proton and wine can muddy things.. also proton out the box will not give you clear or useful logs. I like to wipe the prefix folder for the game if i switch to proton or wine and used the other. Updating to a newer prefix of the same version is done manually by you, but honestly i see no reason to do that unless you know there is a reason for it. Wine or proton updates can have regressions.

Ok so what I’ll do is a clean uninstall, delete the prefix folder and reinstall the game and wine prefix and see if that works

you dont really need to uninstall the game.. its just game data it doesnt change unless you got a corrupt download.. Deleting the prefix will erase any saves as well

Ok so I’ve did the option under uninstall where it deletes the settings for the game and deleted the prefix, after backing up saves. Redownloaded wine, created a new prefix folder, ran the game with latest wine ge and still the same. At this point I think something is going on beyond what I’m seeing or doing

you have to post logs... without it you dont know why it didnt work, there can be multiple reasons

go into this folder and look around /home/deck/.var/app/com.heroicgameslauncher.hgl/config/heroic/tools/wine/Wine-GE-latest/bin/ is there a wine executable in there?

are you doing anything non-standard such as symlinking any folders to the SD card?
other-emerald
other-emerald2y ago
i suppose its possible too that wine isnt marked as executable, or somehow flatpak doesnt have permissions to the folder but that seems like it shouldnt be possible

that was something I thought of, but the hgl folder within ~/.var/app/ should always have permission irrespective of whatever is set it also wouldn't be the first time someone had issues because they were symlinking too many things to the SD card in an effort to save space

nodnod or the sd card is formatted ntfs or fat32 😄 though im pretty sure steam deck forces you to properly format the sd card

only if you go through the system menu some people try to prep their SD cards on their Win PCs as they wait for deliveries

I had to look up what a symlink was so I know I never did that, I’m running emudeck on the same SD card, as heroic. So maybe there’s a couple folders short cutted to each other The moment you stick a new card in it formats it to the deck I’m sorry heroic isn’t installed on my SD Card, it’s on the SSD
