Cultural Appropriation?
they’re palestinian according to their tt bio lol
I meant OP, unless he’s an Arab wearing shemagh on the regular.
Oh word
Actual question, how is wearing a bandana cultural appropriation?
Great question! Wearing a bandana isn’t inherently culturally appropriative—it’s a bandana, and lots of people wear them in many different ways. Before we start, note that OP didn’t ask how to tie a bandana, but instead asked about a TikTok video of a Palestinian teen using a bandana to tie a traditional shemagh (also called a kuffiya, keffiyeh, or ghutrah) which is a traditional form of head covering worn by men in the Middle East. Since a person familiar with the traditions of shemagh would have not needed to ask this question, I assumed that OP did not come from a cultural background where such head coverings were common—so if OP decided to roll out in a shemagh style bandana and he wasn’t Arab, I would clock that as being culturally appropriative. Granted, many factors are at play—I don’t know OP, I don’t know where OP lives, I don’t know OP’s cultural background—but if I was off base, OP would have replied with something like “hey I’m an Arab dude who grew up in diaspora and wants to try this,” and I would have mea culpa’d and moved on.
