Decades Series: 70s - Topic of the day 10/25/23
What do you think of 70s fashion? Do you think of any styles/looks when you think of the 70s? Do you take any inspiration from then? This is an ongoing spotlight series going through the decades.

Okay, technically these photos are from the early 80s, but the tiny top and flared leg silhouette are a very 70s vibe. Dance studios are always about half a decade behind trends anyways
5 decades ahead of the trend 😳
A bit contrarian, but synthetics. I don't know that I would necessarily point to polyester leisure suits as inspiration, but someone was inspired, because synthetics have just gotten better and better and better. Today they are pretty amazing.
I love the 70s. The music and style were just so fun. One person in the cord who has pretty great interpretations of the aesthetic is @Weeg . Love seeing their fits.
Thanks ❤️
I too love me some 70s
It seems like the last era where it was fairly mainstream for mens fashion to be fun
And i feel like the silhouettes of the time were very dramatic and hourglassy which is sorely missing in a lot of clothes today
I love the way wide flares flatter and elongate the legs, and a big wide lapel feels like a very intentional push away from stuffy more traditional suit jackets
Structured tailoring in general is something i really would hope gets its day in the sun again although i really doubt itll be any time soon. Gucci wouldve been the ones to bring it on and they werent really able to move the needle in terms of what people wore day to day. They just kinda had some of the better red carpet looks
I dont always love the shape of my body and im a pretty introverted person and a strong shoulder and big ol lapel and swooshy flares do a lot to the way you see yourself in the mirror and feel like a coat of armor
Seventies glam rock, fur trimmed coats, velvet, sleeves with ruffled detail, boots with lacing and elegant heels. Rockstars in makeup.
