How do you organize your clothing collections and/or what is excessive organization
I kind of want to take photos of every piece of clothing I own against a green screen and crop out the background and then make an image of all of them together like in the Basic Bastard MFA substack post and I can't decide if that's obsessive compulsive mentally unhealthy behavior, or if it will be genuinely helpful to have a picture of everything I own in one place so I can use it to pick outfits
do any of you keep spreadsheets of your clothes, organize your clothes by category, or what do you do to get a 500 foot view of what you own and what clothes work with other clothes?

Some good discussion around it in the thread if you get past the first few dozen comments of petty drama 😅
Spreadsheets/organization is cool! I have a spreadsheet. Not for picking outfits though. Basic fits or your daily uniform you can put together yourself. For creative fits you just gotta put shit on. You could pick a piece you like and build a fit around it, or a piece you never wear and try to make it work. Challenges like this will help you more than a tool or a chart.
I started an inventory list in the notes app after reading that Hot or Cool report (https://hotorcool.org/unfit-unfair-unfashionable/). It’s also where I put things I’m interested in or am thinking about or the direction I want to go in. I like to write things down as I think through or about them, in general.
I know @zacheadams has a spreadsheet he’s posted before. I’m not an excel guy but it usually gets good reception.

Current trends in fashion consumption, in particular fast fashion, cannot be maintained if we aim to achieve a fair and just transition to climate neutrality.
I don't have something like this but I've been thinking of doing the same thing. I have Excel spreadsheets for stuff I own for other hobbies, so why not a "virtual wardrobe" for my clothes. I don't think it's unhealthy, just very nerdy ^^
I think that writing outfits down can help get a sense for what you like, like if you’re analyzing inspo photos, but other than that I agree having a “formula” for getting dressed is not helpful.
I have a text spreadsheet just bc if I don't see a clothing I forget that it exists LOL
I really like the idea of a visual organization but I feel like it's always going to be a bit clunky and clothes will fit a certain way on my body or could be manipulated
Thanks for the link, was an interesting thread. Might check out one of those apps they mentioned or use canva
Seems like the tldr of that thread is
Illustrator / Photoshop/ indesign
Excel / Google sheets
whering
Stylebook
Canva
I realized that I probably had enough fit pics for each of my clothes to show up ~once, so I just made a few photo albums (of tops/pants, sweaters, etc) to catalog them.
A bit simple, but it does have the benefit of seeing how you style them.
i used to keep a digital closet of all my tops/bottoms in an art program so i can play around with layering and combinations - once i find one i like, i screenshot it and refer to it whenever im in a hurry and cant be testing out outfits lol
i havent updated it in a few months but i thought it was helpful for me to get a sense of my wardrobe and discern what pieces i use the most
FYI to make the graphic I used Adobe Illustrator and used remove.bg on product photos, so you could do something similar for your own wardrobe
Been playing with this whering app, it looks very good
