Alan Wake 2
Hi,
Can anyone offer any advice with Alan Wake 2 , see issue below :-
I can get the game to launch just fine adding the d3dcompiler43 & 47 windows components and then the Visual C++ redistributables, I added the EOS overlay as well, the game once i select new game crashed to a blank screen just after laoding and if I leave it eventually crashes completely and then reruns to my login screen. I am using Wine - GE - Proton8-22 since using proton directly fails to launch at all. AMD GPU? sorry for the length post any advice greatly appreciated.
I am unable to past the log in this window as it is quite noisy maybe too many characters

Update your mesa and kernel

I cant see any mesa updates in the update manager, is there an offical way to do this ?

Mint would only offer relatively old ones as if older=more stable is really a thing.
So no; you can't do it with Mint offerings.
You can do via third party repos

You can start with this
Your log was pointing out an amdgpu kernel driver stall

ok thanks I will give it a go
does that also cover mesa , as the game does complain that mesh shaders are not suported I iamagine that might be related

No

You can use one of these

thanks for your help I might learn somethign as well while i am at it.
I just updated the mesa stuff using the first link. That worked I got a cut scene , not sure if it is running ok yet but the issues I had has now gone. Thankyou

thanbks i didnt know how to do that , yeah for sure might help someone else. just for the notes i did not bother to update the kernal , just the first link in the mesa drivers, added the ppa , run an update and then let them install. once they install run an update again , there will be more to update, accept this, all done.

in order to make alan wake run correctly with AMD cards, you actually need mesa-git and a patch that hasnt made it into the main as well
other wise some textures will not appear properly with mesh shaders enbled (and for performance you do not want to disable mesh shaders)
fascinating-indigo•2y ago
it's in main now
metropolitan-bronze•2y ago
oh is it? nice
i should update hah
still need to run mesa-git at least tho i imagine
fascinating-indigo•2y ago
yeah
might be fixed in 23.2.2 tho
(not yet released)
one of the patches had cc:mesa-stable on it
might have been that one that fixed it
metropolitan-bronze•2y ago
cant imagine that will come to mint very quick x_x
fascinating-indigo•2y ago
it will come to ubuntu 23.10 at least
fascinating-indigo•2y ago
Oibaf ppa ships main so he is all good i belive

nice

hey i'm on pop os getting same issue
metropolitan-bronze•2y ago
Ok? Same applies.. The latest mesa has to be used to fix mesh shader stuff.
The easiest is to wait for the newer version of mesa to come to you os
