black chinos

anyone know where i can get some creased flat front chinos (in the "ivy style", if you will) in black? the usual suspects for these kind of pants (bb, jpress, drakes (lol)) don't got em in black. would prefer mid to high rise, nothing too slim, etc

Black chinos aren't really a good fit for an ivy wardrobe fyi

They end up looking weirdly formal for chinos and informal for wool trousers, and they can be hard to wear with navy Plus they're not a great pairing with some shoes

I think I wrote this somewhere else but didn't put it on my copy-paste... I should make a note for my substack. Black pants: - Required for very formal / evening dress (white tie, black tie) - Require texture, obvious weave, pattern/print, etc to pull off for business-formal, cocktail attire, or higher-end business casual levels of formality, otherwise appear funereal, and even then somewhat difficult. - Totally fine for casual (jeans etc) For that middle area, generally covering suits, wool trousers, chinos, etc, charcoal does virtually everything that black does without the downsides. If you really want black, not only do you need to take extra care to keep lint and crap off it, you really want something that makes them look neither funereal nor capital-f Formal. You might make it work with: flannel, whether worsted or woolen; tweed; big herringbone; pinstripe and chalkstripe; silk and/or linen composition; etc. But there's not a lot of recipes for success here. Obviously fine for literal funerals. And for "all black" dress codes like many orchestras have for their members today. (Dang the exceptions should be another substack.) As GSH said, apart from its negative funereal connotation, they can be weirdly in no-mans-land for formality when you do black chinos. They also really call you to wear black shoes and belt (in my opinion) which may not be what you're going for.

Yea I just thrifted some nice fitting PRL prospect pants (essentially a straight chino) and have no idea how to wear them. But they fit so well and we’re $4 so I had to grab them! But it’s definitely tough when you have the pants in hand and have to try and put an outfit together

Those looks really stretchy. Like spandex pants. Meh Black jeans would be better in this fit imo

Agreed but from a color perspective, I think the cream - black - brown is nice
