Buying Clothes While Hefty

Yup, I'm aware that the holidays are approaching and everyone gets hefty during those days, however, in my case, I slowly gained 30 lbs within this year (not allnof it is fat thankfully but still) and around 80% of my wardrobe, especially my pants, are unwearable. I'm currently trying to do something about it and I'm actually trying to put-off buying clothes until I lose the weight, however, what's the group's advice on this since I barely have any wearable clothes left? I was thinking of copping pants first but I'm worried once I lose weight, I can't alter them to the point that they would fit my new physique well.

My advice would be that you do need clothes to wear now, so you should buy clothes at your current size to wear before you lose weight. When I was in the middle of losing weight a few years ago, I bought the minimum number of clothes I needed in order to be a functional person until I was confident I'd be at the same size long-term. Look at thrift and consignment stores so if you have to go through this process a couple times it won't hit your bank account too hard. Also, you probably won't be able to alter the pants if your weight drops as much as you're planning--just donate or sell them when they're too big. I would say that you should start with whatever type of clothes you find you run out of most often--it sounds like that's probably pants. If you buy shirts now, the nice thing is that you might be able to wear them later as an oversize shirt but that doesn't really work with pants. Also, see if you can find elastic waistband pants--there are some stylish options around these days especially if you like wearing loungers. That'll give you a wider range of waist sizes you can wear them at.

Thank you for such a detailed response! Love replies like this! 😊 As for alteration, what would the max number of inches you could take in on a pair of pants before they start looking out of proportion?

I've heard 2 inches but I'm not speaking from experience. If anyone else here has a better answer they should correct me.
