Formal Christmas Party
Hello, I am going to a formal Christmas party for work. My date is wearing a black dress with gold accents. I would like to match her. I have a darker blue suit, and brown dress shoes. That is what I would like to keep. What color shirt, pocket square, and tie would go well with her outfit, and mine?
Thank you in advance!

If she's wearing black and gold but you're wearing blue and brown, you won't match and accessories like tie/pocket squares won't make enough of a difference.
You two can both look good and good together, but if those are your core outfit colors I would let go of the desire to match
Yeah. Maybe you could match the gold in her outfit, but that might be a stretch
So I don’t want to go out and get a black suit at the time. I just want to kind of flow with her her black and gold. I’m just not good with the whole suit and everything. For example could I wear a black with gold pocket square and if so what color shirt or etc should I wear.
I just want to incorporate black and gold to my suit somehow without having to change my coat, pants, and shoes.
you could wear a brown belt with a golden belt buckle
but that's pretty much it
Matching outfits is fun but need to be planned in advance. Does she have a dark blue dress?
I can't recommend adding a black and gold pocket square or a black tie to a blue suit. At most you should do gold or brass rings and watch and stick with a white shirt.
You haven't chosen an outfit that easily allows for this so like I said if you're unwilling to change the core outfit or ask your date to change (which would be rude anyway imo) then the easiest thing to change is your emotional commitment to matching
If the dress code is formal, shouldn’t you be wearing a dinner jacket and formal trousers?
How formal is formal? I assume it is not actually black tie.
Anyways, keep it simply. Navy suit and brown shoes you have, I assume you have a matching brown belt. Wear a white dress shirt, white linen pocket square, and a happier tie. Don't worry about matching her tbh. People ask this constantly and the answer is the same, just wear good clothes and you'll be good.
There are plenty of ties that are primarily gold (though IMO brass tends to work better), and there are tons of ties that are primarily black. You can always do black grenadine, eg, https://www.kentwang.com/accessories/ties/grenadine/grenadine-black.html -- but for a christmas party I'd probably aim for something a little cheerier and less formal (again, unless the dress code is literally black tie.)
