Intermittent 500s even for preflight requests

Hi there! I'm very new to Supabase – is anybody else seeng intermittent 500s with their edge functions? This started happening maybe 30min to an hour ago.

Maybe 1 out of 5 requests succeeds, and the other 4 return a 500 almost instantly. Happens even with preflight requests.

Is there a way to see why a given deployed edge function might be returning a 500 via the logs?

Given that we haven't deployed our functions in the past ~20h and the problem appeared out of nowhere, is there a chance there is an issue on supabase's end?

No other reports recently here. But from a week ago. No answer though what it was.

I've never seen a clear answer on that. Seems like that can occur if the functions dies for some reason also. And then the whole timeout thing on edge functions is poorly documented.

I see the same right now. Edge Functions that used to work returns 500, and I can't figure out where in the logs to see what's wrong.

Rant. The benefit of using a service as Supabase should be, that this isn't a me problem, but a problem with the service.

It could be (and likely is some sort of service issue if you are all seing the same thing). But can't be super widespread as these 3 are it in the public forums today. Depending on the issue the only way Supabase would know of the problem is if you contact support.

So the solution is to spin up a "server" on another service, code tests that run every few minutes against all my Edge Functions, and then alert me when one fails so that I can contact support.

Or else I only know about a failure like this when one of my users contacts me.

Any other solution?

Just for posterity, here’s what I got back from support:

There was an issue in some of our containers in the Frankfurt region where they weren't restarted automatically under some specific error conditions. When we received the alarms for the error, we manually took the containers out of circulation, though that took a bit longer since I had to manually get to it.

Rest assured, I am going to be looking at why this error condition wasn't handled automatically and more gracefully by our systems.

So fingers crossed this gets resolved soon

That is good to know. Thank you so much for bringing that information to the thread.

Luckily my app is still in development, so no real harm was done, but I was showing off my app to a (developer) friend trying to convince him to use Supabase instead of Azure.

Not sure it was that convincing.
