What does this mean in the log file and how can I fix it?
002c:err:wineboot:process_run_key Error running cmd L"C:\windows\system32\winemenubuilder.exe -a -r" (126).
This was the only error shown in the file. I am trying to run Ghostwire and I am using the latest Crossover provided default by Heroic

it's not an error
everyone gets that since heroic doesn't want wine to mess around with your desktop
metropolitan-bronzeOP•2y ago
ah gotcha
I still can't seem to be able to launch the game though
It just says "playing" and then goes back to the "play" button

send rest of the log
metropolitan-bronzeOP•2y ago
will do (edit: deleted log file that was sent due to name being in it)
thank you for helping out as well!
and if it makes a difference, I set my install location and stuff for heroic to an external ssd
plain-purple•2y ago
where is the game installed
metropolitan-bronzeOP•2y ago
on the external ssd
would you like me to provide the path?
plain-purple•2y ago
you shouldn't have the wineprefix and the game's path in the same directory
sure
metropolitan-bronzeOP•2y ago
actually lemme send some screenshots too

I currently have a Heroic folder in the root of my SSD
within that, there seems to be two Ghostwire folders

metropolitan-bronzeOP•2y ago
the one on the left has this
plain-purple•2y ago
ok ur good
it's just sus, but it's fine
metropolitan-bronzeOP•2y ago
ah ok
plain-purple•2y ago
the wineprefix should be seperate from the game dir otherwise you get issues
check the windows version of the prefix (using winecfg)
and set it to windows 10
metropolitan-bronzeOP•2y ago
i'm a bit new to heroic and all of this, so i apologize. How would I get to winecfg to do that?
is it through heroic?
plain-purple•2y ago
yes
settings of the game
same place where you get the crossover version
metropolitan-bronzeOP•2y ago
okie dokie, I will check that and update you
metropolitan-bronzeOP•2y ago

metropolitan-bronzeOP•2y ago
seems to already be on windows 10
plain-purple•2y ago
is there a windows 11 option?
metropolitan-bronzeOP•2y ago
yep
i'll try that
hmm it still just says "playing" and then goes back to the "play now" button
plain-purple•2y ago
you installed the gptk's metal d3d thingy into the prefix right?
metropolitan-bronzeOP•2y ago
if it makes it any easier, I can hop on a vc and stream for you
plain-purple•2y ago
send another log
vc is not nessessary
metropolitan-bronzeOP•2y ago
I don't recall doing this. I was previously using Whisky to play steam games and Whisky downloaded GPTK by itself into some location. I have not downloaded GPTK myself manually into any other location
plain-purple•2y ago
does whisky work with heroic?
idk
metropolitan-bronzeOP•2y ago
don't think the support is built in as of yet
I installe the mac os version of heroic onto my laptop itself and not into a bottle within whisky
is heroic supposed to be downloaded to a windows bottle?
plain-purple•2y ago
wdym
metropolitan-bronzeOP•2y ago
When I downloaded heroic initially, it installed directly to my mac's applications folder. I then manually dragged over all the files to my SSD and also changed the paths in the settings of heroic to match it. The way I downloaded Steam on Whisky though was by running the Steam.exe directly from within the windows 10 bottle that I had created in Whisky (effectively downloading it as a windows application instead of mac)
I was wondering if I had to download heroic the same way
plain-purple•2y ago
oh no don't run heroic through wine, that's not needed
I guess you could if you wanted to tho
metropolitan-bronzeOP•2y ago
kk then ig I should be fine in that regard lol
this is just odd
if you feel that you can't think of anything else that might help resolve, don't worry about it. Your help so far has been a lot more than I was expecting
hopefully in a future release they will support Whisky via heroic
plain-purple•2y ago
yeah mac gaming knowledge around here is rather limited lol
metropolitan-bronzeOP•2y ago
haha thanks again though
update: Just tried a different game and that one seems to run fine. Ig it's just something specific to Ghostwire
