Normal Fit For 37-38” Chest
What garment chest size for a hoodie would be normal fit for a 37-38” chest? 42” circumference or 44”?

Probably depends how baggy you like it to fit and if you layer stuff with it. I have a similar chest measurement and have slimmer wool hoodies that are closer to 38-40, and more casual ones that are a little bigger at 40-42 - comfortable but not so big I can't layer over them if I need to. I don't think 44 would be too bad if you like the baggy look. Personally I prefer my clothes to be on the more fitted side, but I think a lot of people here will say "bigger = good"
Depends what you like, my measurements are similar and I prefer hoodies that are closer to 42''
Closer to 40" can start to feel slim (think reigning champs midweight) and normal is closer to 42"
Hoodies that are closer to 44" will feel oversized
Usually just tee under hoodie for me. I prefer a bit more fitted/normal
Yeah I have some that are 44” currently and they’re nice and thick but they feel looser than I’d like particularly near waist
Do you guys know if there’s a reference point for adding to chest circumference to get to normal fitted garment. Like if chest is 37” would +3” so 40” be normal fit for tees
There isn't because fit is a complex 3d problem and what you characterise as "normal" isn't standardised.
I have a ~37/38” chest (and 6’ tall, 140lbs) and have recently been feeling constricted with a lot of my slim tops — I’ve been going around measuring everything I own to figure out what fit I prefer.
TLDR: I have a lot of basics in Reigning Champs slim fit small — which is ~19” pit-to-pit. These feel very fitted and I’ll probably just be wearing them for base/under layers.
The medium slim (20.5” p2p) feels trim but with a comfortable amount of space and fits well as my new normal size.
Medium “Classic” fit is 22” and feels very roomy/slouchy.
I do prefer button-ups to be trimmer, ~20.5-21” is ideal.
Shoulder width plays a huge part too, anywhere from 17.5-22” works, as long as the chest is appropriately sized too (ofc the wider the more relaxed/casual it makes the outfit)
With my tall and slim proportions I do have to pay close attention to the sleeve and body length too.
I find +2.5 to be the minimum I look for
22” for a tee definitely seems big for 37” chest, I personally wouldn’t like it. My hoodies that are 22” are a bit annoying even since they feel a bit loose and boxy but it’s not as bad since it’s a hoodie
Yeah, you are right. I like the mid/heavyweight tees and sweaters in ~21-22” for a slouchy fit but for a regular shirt the 20-21” is better.
Yeah definitely. I think even hoodies I might switch to small too though, idk
Medium usually feels looser than I’d like but small sometimes feels a bit tight on chest and upper back, chest and back aren’t that wide but they’re pretty thick
Such is life as a schmedium 😭 but for what it’s worth I’m regretting favoring small over the past few years and just this month grit my teeth to rebuy a huge chunk of my wardrobe in mediums.
there’s a combination of gaining a few pounds, shrinkage of older clothes, noticing the current oversized trend, and wanting to future proof my closet with stuff that will still fit if I put on a few more pounds. And with my height, my chest getting slightly bigger also raised the hem to be annoyingly short on some pieces which was also a factor.
Just sharing the lesson I learned to avoid committing my whole closet to a single fit!
That’s how I feel but with mediums the past few years 😂 I lost weight so that’s why my medium stuff feels annoyingly looser now, obviously expected but I do prefer the normal/a bit fitted. Which is why I kinda wanna rebut some of the same pieces I have but in small
