Mail security agencies
We've been mostly reaching out to politicians. This is not a bad strategy, but there are other groups of people who might be able to give politicians a push in the right direction. One of them is security agencies. Groups who are tasked to protect citizens from harms and risks. The groups who have to be a little paranoid, who have to watch out for the improbable. These groups consist of people who can deal with complicated things, who tend to be familiar with cybersecurity. Let's reach out to them.
How do we do this
- Get a list of agencies, preferably for every country. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1L6Y-lPNNxUoPT2Z1rUstIaAvruEzxfnpicizscEqQt8/edit#gid=0
- Make a nice email template that gives plenty of links, so recipients can dive into the topic
- Send it to people who work there
- Security orgs tend to be secretive. Don't expect you can find all of their employees in some publicly listed site.
- Don't expect a reply back. Their role is to inform those in power, not the public (I think).
- Add agencies to the spreadsheet
- Reach out to them
- Share template letter
