Can I get a second opinion on these loafers?

A pair of Alden LHS in my size just showed up on eBay. They need a new sole, but afaict the upper is in pretty good shape. They’re listed so low I’m tempted, even though that means going to the hassle of getting them resoled. My only concern is the wear at the back of the left heel cup. I’ve never seen leather look like that before. Is it normal, or at least something I can fix with polish? Or are there any other red flags?
