heroes of might & magic book 1

I can't start the game from the title screen - it tells you to press ESC (works) and then to press ENTER (which doesn't work). Possible incorrect dosbox conf from heroic? i don't have much dosbox experience so all help appreciated!

removed all environment variables (there was a mangohud one remaining after i had previously disabled mangohud for the game), then to remove dxvk i just deleted the prefix, disabled auto-install of dxvk and ran the game to rebuild the prefix. this log is from subsequent run, original issue remains present

okay, the wineHQ ratings are all at "garbage", gonna try in the windows vm at some point - for now skipping to heroes of might and magic 3 as that's the first one not rated garbage in wineHQ

For what it's worth you can use fheroes2 to play the second game.

You may also be able to get the first game running by replacing GOG's packaged DOSBox with DOSBox Staging or DOSBox-X.

Oh, you were trying to play Might & Magic Book I: Secrets of the Inner Sanctum? You post title is a bit muddled. You can use ScummVM for that.
