Steam Deck not launching Star Wars Dark Forces (GOG) with the flatpak build
Frankly what's going on seems utterly bizarre to me at the moment.
So, first I tried downloading and installing the Linux build of the game, but it wouldn't run after installing - "Play Now" would say it's launching, and then fail.
I uninstalled, and downloaded the Windows build instead, choosing to play under Proton - and miraculously, it did launch.
After this I decided to, instead of DOSBox, use the fanmade sourceport "The Force Engine", since it would assist me in getting controller input working. Since the Linux build of that needs to be manually compiled atm, I opted to download its Windows build and run it under Proton too. All of a sudden, after telling Heroic to "Select an alternative EXE to run" and pointing it towards the TFE executable, it once again wouldn't launch.
...Until, I went to the game's "Wine" tab and dragged the TFE .exe onto the "RUN EXE ON PREFIX" option, where it worked and launched immediately. And yet I can't launch it from the "Play Now" button in Heroic, nor does it launch from within Steam after clicking "Add to Steam" in Heroic. I'm fully at a loss to all this, honestly.
