Trash First Layers

PETG I’ve been printing with for years, same files sliced for years, swapped to the new black pei plate from RR last week and could not get the print to stick even after titting around with the probe offset. So I’ve gone back to my non textured plate and original offset and I’m still getting these rubbish first few layers.

if that is the underside of the print, then your Z-offset is way too high as there is no squish. Couold you run the first layer test (i.e. the 1 layer thick square) and post some more clear pictures?

Yes that’s the underside. It’s like I’m getting inconsistent offset. Am I right in saying the smaller the offset I put into the config file, the closer the nozzle should be to the bed?

yes. But i wouldn't touch the config file myself. Just print a 1 layer thick rectangle and live adjust the Z value until it looks good. then remember to press "save config" after the print, which will save the offset to your config. Its very well explained here: https://docs.ratrig.com/commissioning-guides/v-core-3-1#z-offset

Thank you I’m up at printing well again. Why my offset has gone from 2.93 to 1.6 I’ll never know. It’s been 2.93 for over 1500 hours of flawless printing.

Could be related to the new bed. I have one of those PEI / patterned PEO or whatever plates, and with the PEO plate I have to adjust my Z offset almost half a millimetre. Glad it's fixed 🙂
