anyway I think its cool đ đ I view it as a form of workwear which I am a big fan of so its great
You really gonna drop in this thread and not say "howdy?"
well I did say yeehaw
I want the cardigan in that pic so bad I can taste it.
what does it taste like
blue powerade
powerade is good
inhales into paper bag
For me I think it's fun as hell to add "western" elements to random fits
big ass belt buckle
Yee
I love cool belt buckles
short list of why i enjoy westernwear:
- great craftsmanship, especially with leather goods and metal accessories
- assuming you're not Super Serious it feels more lighthearted than other modes of dress
- cowboy boots
- easy to translate into other aesthetics (see https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1116800072093532191/1211046233486004245, https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1116800072093532191/1208955679633575977, https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1116800072093532191/1207829125931339786 and https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1116800072093532191/1206718579387531274

yes leather and metal are awesome
The good:
Suede, denim, pearl buttons, big ass tooled boots, insane aura, cowboys have infinite swag who doesn't wanna be a cowboy
The bad: some elements border on or are straight up appropriation of native art, which is extra bad given the history there
The ugly: dressing like this in the states may get you mistaken as a c*nservative
When I was a kid I wanted to grow up to be a cowboy. I wanted to grow up to be a lot of things, but also always a cowboy. I love adding western elements to a fit, because cowboys are cool. This iconic Ralph Lauren image will live in my mind forever.
one of the hardest fits of all time
>cowboy boots
hats too
normalize cowboy hats
i have a deep respect for western style clothing. to the point where i will actively go to my local sporting store and get some cuts of rodeo shirts to have something nice for the summertime. but also because DAMN is it hard to find purple cinch jeans my beloved. itâs more of a variety of workwear i pull brands from for my own closet than a style i wear myself. i love the looks, though.
In my opinion the easiest way to add a little western flair is a snap button shirt
My levis sawtooth shirt with pearl snaps is probably my favourite shirt. It's starting to wear out, few small holes etc. Planning to find an exact replacement soon as I can
Absolutely. Some other inspoâŚ
Doing my part to shift the Overton window
Howdy, I like how someone mentioned above how Western wear is considered workwear to them.
I like how Western wear can be on both sides of the spectrum. Formal and nice with black denims and then real rancher wear on the fields.
Your third point is where Iâm at with it (at least for myself). There are people who can make western wear look great (looking at you, @dangerg and @warpweftwatergate ), but the first place my mind goes to when I see the clothes themselves is the rednecks around me that wore those clothes, and all of their homophobia and racism.
I would say, that I wish Boot sizing was more straightforward. Haven't found a pair that I'm ready to pull the trigger on
I really resonate with that last point. A way that I've come across it is the idea or reclaiming that style/culture as my own that is not bigoted in any way.
I think that now we can change the narrative to some items and change the association of bad things.
aw appreciate the compliment but I don't think I've posted any western fits!
Oh no, I meant danger and warp (looking at them). Sorry for the confusion!
I appreciate the shout out about native stuffâIâm half and I still get uncomfortable with some items and patterns
To your third point I think itâs def worth noting that country and western/Appalachian music and culture has a LONG history of being counterculture, anti-fascist, and left leaning
Granted not everyone knows that, but I think itâs less likely to be seen as overtly conservative as folks may think, especially outside of cities
And maybe thatâs just where and how I grew up, but Iâd wager that anyone would be more accepted for who they are in rural Kentucky than on the south shore of Boston lol. Dude in a fitted Red Sox hat and a blue lives matter shirt infinitely more terrifying than a guy in a ten gallon hat and wranglers
Since youâre bringing this up itâs also worth noting just exactly who has been a cowboy historically and what they looked like. While white folks certainly were cowboys, 1/3 to 1/4 of cowboys in the Old West were black and a large percentage were of Mexican and/or indigenous descent. Much of the cultural conception of the cowboy we have comes from racist Hollywood movies. Even today, a large majority of the people who actually do the work of ranching and farming are BIPOC.
One hundred percent

Conservatives just hijacked it. Pay them no mind.
I think that one thing that is sometimes missed, regarding western wear, is that the imagery and mythos and reality of the west has long been a give and take. Even before Hollywood effectively created our modern idea of the west, ranchers and cowboys (as many as 30-40% of whom were black) were influenced by the romanticism and imagery of pulp novels like The Virginian. So, when you wear western clothes today, youâre in conversation with Ralph Laurenâs interpretation of Hollywoodâs own whitewashed vision of the west, which was in turn informed by people trying to emulate the mass media of their own time, which was a romanticization of a previous generation of ranchhands and manual laborers.
I see spaghetti already went over a lot of that
Great take
Spaghetti, western
:xd:
thanks for the insight y'all! Learning a lot
Obligatory self inspo for this thread of probably the most western pic Iâve had taken

The native stuff is a hard one for me because my wife is very native and grew up on the res. So we have tons of random blankets, native jewlery, ect around our house so I am just desensitized to it.
I cant really explain it but a vintage Pendleton jacket feels different to me than some urban outfitters stuff labeled "Navajo print"
I feel like theres a respectful way to go about it
But I am not very good with words so
Fwiw, I feel like most native folks Iâve met (actual family included) donât particularly care about most shit that folks are concerned about appropriating. As long as youâre not waltzing around at Coachella with a headdress on
@dangerg but obviously itâs all relative
Pun not intended
đ
lmao
I love this brand though https://ginewusa.com
ginewusa
The first Native American-owned denim collection. Native-Americana
Ginew apparel is heavily influenced by American workwear, Selvedge denim jeans, pendleton wool lined coats and wax canvas jackets offering the highest quality available. Hemp cotton shirts as well as custom made belts round out a superior collection. Come learn about Ginew and our rooted story.
I think the biggest issue is when native artists have their work basically remade (often badly) by people who arenât native
Native owned and really good ways to work stuff into modern fashion IMO
Oh weird timing I love them too lol
Yeah this is big
Thereâs a traditional way to do shit and it being mass produced and sold to some dude in Bushwick ainât it
I love Ginew! Theyâre based here in Portland. Super cool folks and some dope stuff they make.
I just wanna stay away from the convo that we often see when discussing Japanese cultural pieces online and I see dudes say "well they actually love it when westerners wear this so its fine for me to wear this"
I didnât grow up in the culture and even I know that much lol

I love me some đ¤ . Living in Europe it can look pretty costumey though, so I only wear bits as part of a more general Americana type of look.
One day I will buy cowboy boots and my wife will leave me.
Fargo season 5 is full of great Westernwear fits, just sayin
It looks costumey in most of America too (weighted by where people live). But embracing some of that is part of the fun.
I donât think itâs costumey in most of California (including LA) and all of Texas. Thatâs a lot of the population.
Where in California? I've only really lived in the Bay Area but it would be very out of place there. From what I've seen of LA, it wouldn't be very common throughout most of there either.
Maybe Iâm exaggerating and misremembering LA but I think there are some area there where they wouldnât be weird.
I used to live near Fresno and definitely common there
And common in the outskirts of LA county
Older Hispanic men love cowboy boots
There are definitely pockets of it all over. Even here in Chicago, you can find old rancheros (or people who dress like them) wearing it. https://www.alcalas.com/ is a locally known western shop that is decently well known
Iâd argue that cowboy boots donât look out of place anywhere because:
1) theyâre cool
2) people do farming and ranching everywhere
I think theres also a big difference between the types of boots
one of these things is not like the other
Yeah one of these pairs is hideous
didnt know you hated tecovas so much :sadhaw:
I will not be accused of this, I think Tecovas are an excellent value
Fuck,, maybe I SHOULD buy some cowboy boots
Yes
Itâs such a no brainer
