question about fits on dress shirts
I know you're supposed to buy shirts so they have some wiggle room in the neck. When it comes to dress shirts, if my neck measures 17 inches, should I be buying 17 1/2 shirts, or 17 shirts?

how are you measuring the neck?
optimally you would slip a finger between your skin and the tape measure to account for comfort, and if so, go with the measured volume https://propercloth.com/reference/how-to-measure-your-body-neck-collar/

if not, honestly just re-measure unless you are in DIRE need of a dress shirt, but even in that case try the true to size shirt on first with a tie
I got 17 following your guide above, and 17 from getting measured at a men's wearhouse the other day. I feel pretty confident in that number now. Thanks
