which pair of pants?

Heya all - struggling to decide between these two pairs of pants. For context, I generally wear a camel jacket (similar color to the first pair of pants) or a navy peacoat. Sometimes a navy suit jacket. I usually wear a navy turtleneck or a cream waffle knit sweater underneath.

I would go for the first pair in terms of color based on what you want to wear with it If you're not dead set on these specific pants I would look for something with a fuller cut though. The cut of these is pretty dated

the pendulum has swung away from the slim fit pants that MFA and fashion at large enjoyed in the early and mid 2010s towards straight or wider fit pants that's not to say people don't wear them or you can't wear them because wear what you like, just that it's an observation of a style that is less common now than it was 10 years ago

I hear ya, and I guess I am posting on a fashion advice discord so I'm grateful for the advice, but ngl I kinda don't care for keeping up with the trends because you're always behind and I don't have the money to constantly be buying clothes. Imo this kind of cut suits me the best so I generally stick to it. Plus my style is already kinda dated - I tend to keep it old school with the jumpers, the suits and all that.

that's solely an answer to your question and not a judgment on it camel over navy imo, navy pants with a navy suit jacket/sport coat can read as an unintentionally mismatched suit

Yeah - and as I said I'm grateful for the advice! How would it be mismatched if they're the same color though (think I'm leaning toward the camel but just out of curiosity)?

Why not get a pair of pants that goes with both a camel jacket and navy jacket? Gray, for example

Because the fabrics and shades of blue of the jacket and pants will differ it will be clear that they don't belong together. At the same time it will not be clear that they are intentionally different because of the color. This will make it feel like you tried to match but didn't succeed or are not aware that the pants and jacket don't belong together. With differently colored pants this is not an issue because it's clear that you never tried to match the jacket with the pants in the first place
