Can anybody give a quick fit check on this henley? I'm learning to alter clothes!

Hi all! I'm very new to dressing well and recently lost a lot of weight, so basically I have no idea how things are meant to fit. Instead of trying to buy all new clothes, I've instead begun to learn to alter my existing clothing! This was my first "real" attempt. Would love any feedback on how the shirt fits, since when I have the measurements juuuuuust right I can apply them to more of my garments. For bonus points, does the shirt work with these pants? I like tucking in my shirts, but last time I posted I was given the advice that tucking in tshirts looks a bit strange with the pants I enjoy, and I was wondering if a henley is a better choice for this kind of pants, for a dressier but still casual outfit? Excuse the fact they're a little crumpled. I've just worn them for running a few errands and it's definitely wash time!

henleys are very casual, unfortunately i dont think they would fall under any definition of dressy. fit looks pretty good to me, I would go with different pants personally, maybe chinos

The problem isn't the tuck necessarily it's the pants. You're wearing formal pinstripe trousers which are meant to be worn with the matching jacket in a suit Meanwhile your top is a waffle knit henley (essentially a base layer undershirt) - it's a formality clash and doesn't look good

Thanks! I'm most likely going to be swapping out the pants for some non pinstripe ones soonish; right now I wanted to get the top sorted before I buy any new items, so that I don't have to use my budget on multiple things. I'm most likely going to go for similar pants (because they're comfy haha) but in a solid colour, and likely with a straighter cut. Thanks! I think "dressier" might have been the wrong choice of words; I guess I want a casual outfit that's "nice". As in, the level of formality you'd be able to wear to a nicer cafe or coffeeshop. I really don't enjoy wearing jeans and tshirt combos or athleisure wear. In terms of the fit, what are your thoughts about right above the belt, where my top billows out slightly? I'm trying to decide if I should take it in by a small amount there, like a half or full inch in total, or if I should just leave it. I'll probably be subbing out the pants as soon as I get the top part of this outfit sorted. Most likely a solid colour, with a straight cut instead of a taper. I'm tossing up between chinos or ankle pants/trousers.

Thanks! I'll leave as is, and save this measurements for applying to others. I appreciate all the help! My next project is altering some pants, including the pair I'm wearing (planning to dye to remove the pinstrips, then take it in very slightly around the seat and hips and reduce the taper) and a pair of chinos from when I was MUCH heavier (taken in and up heavily). I'll probably end up matching this one with the chinos if they end up working out!

Sounds cool! Have you dyed pants before? It might not give you the results you want, and I think the pattern is fine as is. Considering you might ruin them I'd stick with the alterations

Probably sage advice, haha. I was planning to practice on a few pairs of pants I got from an Op shop for like $5 each, and then if the dying doesn't work out well on the practise pairs, I'm probably just going to drop that part of the project and stick to just the alterations. I appreciate the warning though; I'm just not a fan of the pinstripes myself.

Hey thanks! I'm new to this Discord, and didn't even realise that existed. Will definitely be introducing myself on there when my next project starts!
