Set up local / national PauseAI websites

Both @Maxime F (RationalHippy) and @Jan-Erik Vinje are planning to set up local PauseAI chapters. I can help with this by providing the existing codebase of the PauseAI website. This has a couple of advantages:

Content is already there, only needs to be translated
Design / branding ready
Knowledge can easily be transferred from A to B, similar codebase!
Everything is easily editable
Cheap hosting with Netlify

However, it also has some shortcomings:

New content requires manual migrations

Good questions. These are the projects

1) We translate every page, keep it in one repo (project babel)
2) We fork the PauseAI website for local orgs, leave it to manual changes / updates. (this project)

If the goal is actually just to build a copy in another language keeping a fork up-to-date sounds ike more work than including translations in the original repo

Hi. I can do the spanish version of the webpage. There are many people in Spain that only speak spanish. I am a native spanish speaker, and I have a C1 in english, so I should not have any problem translating the webpage. Same as @Agrest, I do not have any experience related to the webpage hosting part, but I can learn it if necessary.

If you begin doing any work to translate (formally "localize") English text on the PauseAI.info website into another language or domain, the main way work could be wasted is if we can't relate stuff easily later.

Whatever document or documents you write, please make sure you copy original English text in next to your translated copy.

There are standard localization formats, but all we really need for now for a script or human to later use this stuff is:

Stick to some convention across the document.

Keep it simple. Just text on separate lines, with blank lines to distinguish a block of lines that run together into a piece of text from another piece of text. Assume the reader speaks only English, and can confidently tell "the translation of that block of English text to the language I don't know is this other block of text"

If you want to note when/where you found the original text (e.g. the PauseAI.info page URL) too that's great, just distinguish the notes from the text unambiguously (by e.g. starting every note with the same unique prefix e.g. "L10nSource:"

I can get pauseai.nyc for $30/y, but I think doing one-page subdomains nyc.pauseai.info would also be a fair, free solution. Is there a reason this is a worse idea if we're not up for hosting our own page yet?
