Advocacy to OECD to slow down AGI developers
Seeking AI safety experts to send advocacy/ complaints to the OECD
Several companies developing AGI are multinational enterprises. Pause.AI can potentially advocate to the OECD with reference to their Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises. While the Guidelines are not binding rules, the OECD directly engages with the companies and provides recommendations for responsible business conduct. OECD would pose our questions to the companies who then reply. This discovery process can uncover material for legal actions, media attention or other campaign purposes.
My colleagues and I previously made a complaint to OECD about UK government involvement in a harmful BP pipeline project. The result of this advocacy and related media work prompted a UK government investigation into BP corruption. Those circumstances may not apply in the case of AI developers but nevertheless: imagine how much it could slow AGI developers down if they were similarly subject to a government investigation!
This project seeks a big level of involvement.
