So, to reach out the masses sooner or later we would need a FB group.
It would also help our diversity of people with other worries on AI and in every other aspect also.

On June 26th, Facebook will be changing their ToS to officially train LLMs and generative programs on user data. That can’t be the platform to utilize here.

Fair enough, but it seems counterproductive to post on a site that’s currently sharing data in ways which this group likely objects to.

Also, with the number of fake accounts on that platform and many other social media sites, real life activists could find themselves arguing endless discussions with LLMs who they think are people, which would be both a waste of time and absolutely ironic.

It's fine if most people will refrain from using Facebook. But we could be losing on a lot of growth for not having a group for the one who will not. Unless a similar social media surges where a bunch of people from FB end up moving to, I think it makes sense

I’m more worried about creating a group that’s likely to attract current or future artists to spend time on that platform and almost certainly feature their works unwittingly to that training data.

I agree most Pause AI coordination shouldn't be done on Facebook. (Some particular small chapters could reasonably choose to.)

And that a main PauseAI Facebook page should remind participants of the company's relevant stances (particularly for artists), and understand we'll see a lot of trolling and disagreement by default.

Seems likely we should have some presence on Facebook, though. Still the most monthly active users (>3B) and reach. Some of those we seek to reach are mostly there.

We could decide to boycott a single platform (the average number of social media accounts across netizens is six) but it shouldn't be done lightly.

Of course, right now we have almost no social media platform presence: the opportunity is vast.

I know there is some hesitation in setting up with Facebook, as they have terrible policies with AI and respect for original artist's work. However I think the bottom line is far, far more ppl use it than Discord. Discord has 150 million users, Facebook has almost 3 billion.
