ok i fixed that problem but now i have a different problem
the mod just doesn't work
i'm not seeing any farther than normal
and i generated the chunks; they should be showing

do chunks just take a lot longer to render if there's already a lot of chunks rendered?

it's supposed to heavily increase the render distance seamlessly while not lagging too much

Sounds like a world gen problem perhaps. Maybe the lag spikes stopped when it generated all LODs?

although it's still probably not a fantastic idea to leave 4 gigs to everything else on my pc
