Fun colors for shorts

I am looking for a pair of shorts with a fun color, to wear any day of the week (at work - very casual - or when going out). I already have black and "stone" chino shorts, and I was considering getting some light blue or teal shorts (see pics). I usually wear shorts with any t-shirt or casual button-up shirt that fits well, color-wise, with the shorts.

I want some advice:

• Are these colors versatile?
• Are they in style right now?
• Are there other, better fun colors I should be going for?
• Any other advice?

(I am aware that the Patagonia shorts in the first pic may not go well with a button-up shirt.)
