About bootable containers and podman

So, I have a unique case where I have a VPN client that I can't install via normal methods. It can't work purely in a container without some hacky module loading and local network proxies, and it can't be installed via
rpm-ostree
rpm-ostree
. It doesn't have an AppImage or a flatpak, and the installer comes as a
.run
.run
file. I just learned about bootable containers, which could work, but my question is this:

If I created a bootable container(file) based on Bazzite, then rebased to it, would I still get automatic updates from the original Bazzite image, or would I have to manually stage everything in a container with my modifications each time I wanted to check for/get updates?
