Uniqlo U crew neck T-shirt very rough/scratchy

I was hoping y’all could help me out a bit.
I recently did my first purchase from Uniqlo, starting with the U crew neck T-shirts as some wardrobe basic items. (Did not go for the airism models as I saw reviews they stain too easily).
I was surprised to feel texture of the clothes when I first received them. The material felt very heavy (which is good ig, shows their high gsm) and the collar was just fantastic. Common issue for me with tees is the collar loosing shape after a few washes.
But the material felt really scratchy or rough to wear. Is this normal or does the fabric soften after some washes?
Can’t check this myself as then I couldn’t return these items
