Infinite? WAS THAT AN INFINITE CHEF REFERENCE?

it’s 1

@BATATA CAT explain why ∞ holes
foreign-sapphire
foreign-sapphire9mo ago
Bc technically infinity can be diffferent sizes some infinities are bigger than other so i chose a infinity equal to 1 https://tenor.com/view/think-smart-gif-22411928
nousernamefound
nousernamefound9mo ago
you were almost correct
foreign-sapphire
foreign-sapphire9mo ago
🥲
nousernamefound
nousernamefound9mo ago
hmm well maybe you can technically still be

desmos wont allow for infinity to be plugged in, but, if it did, it would return 1
rare-sapphire
rare-sapphire9mo ago
It’s 1
sunny-green
sunny-green9mo ago
yknow since atoms never touch there would be a HUGE number of holes that would be too much to count so can be known as infinity
nousernamefound
nousernamefound9mo ago
maybe close to infinity but not truly
j
j9mo ago
close to infinity
how like isn’t infinity meant to be endless
nousernamefound
nousernamefound9mo ago
true
gradual-turquoise
gradual-turquoise9mo ago
0 : if bent into a toric shape 1 : if folded into a b shaped thing 2 : if straight, one on both ends infinity: impossible, for obvious reasons Infinity is not a massive number It's a concept
j
j9mo ago
one on both ends
that would be an opening not a hole
gradual-turquoise
gradual-turquoise9mo ago
hole=opening
j
j9mo ago
hole =/= opening in some context yes regarding a straw no a hole could be an opening
gradual-turquoise
gradual-turquoise9mo ago
still, it just means: 0: if flattened 1: if straight 2: if pinched in the middle Infinite: same reason as before
j
j9mo ago
but an opening could also not be a hole a hole is a hollow place in something a straw is a hollow
gradual-turquoise
gradual-turquoise9mo ago
but it doesn't matter anyway
j
j9mo ago
thus it’s a hole
gradual-turquoise
gradual-turquoise9mo ago
infinity is the only impossible one
j
j9mo ago
hey i never mentioned infinity
gradual-turquoise
gradual-turquoise9mo ago
this version treats them as holes, not openings

the cylinder on the right totally has a hole

nousernamefound9mo ago
not a hole

if u dig in the ground, u make a hole, and it’s just like that
nousernamefound
nousernamefound9mo ago
is this a hole?

ja
nousernamefound
nousernamefound9mo ago
is this a hole?
No description
rare-sapphire
rare-sapphire9mo ago
i think it depends on whether. or not it is supposed to be there like if i dig a hole in the ground then yes but like a spoon doesnt have a hole even if it has an indent
nousernamefound
nousernamefound9mo ago
No description
j
j9mo ago
my definition of a hole is it has to lead somewhere, it could be nothing but atleast somewhere
rare-sapphire
rare-sapphire9mo ago
i think the part surrounding it needs to be thicker than the part in it
sensitive-blue
sensitive-blue9mo ago
i say “infinite” but it’s nerd time
nousernamefound
nousernamefound9mo ago
so does this have a hole?
No description
sensitive-blue
sensitive-blue9mo ago
there are a lot of atoms in the straw, and atoms are usually connected in a hexagon formation (prob)
j
j9mo ago
does a cup have a hole

a coffee mug has a hole right where the handle is

i thought this was a straw hole debate not a “what is a hole” debate
nousernamefound
nousernamefound9mo ago
according to google, straws have 2 or 1 hole, depending on if you use formal/informal
No description
sensitive-blue
sensitive-blue9mo ago
so the amount of visible holes are 2 but the amount of all of the holes are (a/3) + 2 where a = the amount of atoms in a straw

here is my brand new cup i just bought from pretend-mart

nousernamefound9mo ago
does my cup have a hole in it now?
No description
sensitive-blue
sensitive-blue9mo ago
yes 1 hole to be exact
nousernamefound
nousernamefound9mo ago
hmmm thats not good i must get that hole fixed!
j
j9mo ago
1 hole is meant to be there the other isnt
nousernamefound
nousernamefound9mo ago
is there any more holes in my cup?
No description
j
j9mo ago
also how tf do you fix a glass cup
sensitive-blue
sensitive-blue9mo ago
that cup does not have 2 holes. pits are holes with a bottom, holes are pits that appear as pits in the front and opposite direction
j
j9mo ago
pits are holes
nousernamefound
nousernamefound9mo ago
holes are pits that appear as holes? you cant define a word using itself
j

ah yes variable = variable

i bring up: swiss cheese question 1: are these holes that u see?
No description
nousernamefound
nousernamefound9mo ago
i cant tell if theres any "topological" holes
j

no that’s a cut
ryan 🪱
ryan 🪱OP9mo ago
i think anybody would say swiss cheese has holes!
nousernamefound
nousernamefound9mo ago
ok
ryan 🪱
ryan 🪱OP9mo ago
and if it does, what about the holes inside, with no exits?

in ontomata, a hole is simply any lack of material in material
nousernamefound
nousernamefound9mo ago
hm thats an interesting definition
ryan 🪱
ryan 🪱OP9mo ago
i believe a straw would have 1 hole in ontomataverse
nousernamefound
nousernamefound9mo ago
i think so too its a singular cylinder shaped absence of material in the plastic
ryan 🪱
ryan 🪱OP9mo ago
everything in ontomata exists because it is defined
nousernamefound
nousernamefound9mo ago
hmm what would happen if you took a straw and cut it down the middle, and flattened it into a sheet it probably wouldnt be useful anymore
jolly-crimson
jolly-crimson9mo ago
brain not braining..
ryan 🪱
ryan 🪱OP9mo ago
oh my it could still be useful if u folded the half in half
nousernamefound
nousernamefound9mo ago
would this be a hole since usually the sphere is meant to be a bit taller than this
No description
ryan 🪱
ryan 🪱OP9mo ago
hmmmm no i think it needs some depth otherwise everything has holes everywhere
nousernamefound
nousernamefound9mo ago
hmm
ryan 🪱
ryan 🪱OP9mo ago
that’s a face (side)
nousernamefound
nousernamefound9mo ago

No description
nousernamefound
nousernamefound9mo ago
it has depth
j
j9mo ago
it’s just 2 material combined
ryan 🪱
ryan 🪱OP9mo ago
hmmmm id say it’s a hole
j
j9mo ago
id say it’s a cut
nousernamefound
nousernamefound9mo ago
interesting
ryan 🪱
ryan 🪱OP9mo ago
but there’s nothing different from a cross section of a hole in the ground it’s just a different dimension of hole
j
j9mo ago
new thread: what the fuck is a hole
nousernamefound
nousernamefound9mo ago
ontomatically, an absence of material in another material topologically, a structure that prevents the object from being shrunk to a point
ryan 🪱
ryan 🪱OP9mo ago
ontomacanonically
nousernamefound
nousernamefound9mo ago
logically, its hard to define hole since things are complicated a normal person would say a pit in the ground is a hole but a normal person would also say a plate doesnt have holes would a normal person say a bowl has a hole in it? we need to find a normal person

exotic-emerald
exotic-emerald9mo ago
If you drilled through the core of the earth, from 1 side to the other, there would be 2 possible perspectives, making it 2 holes or 1 very deep hole, meaning that a straw's holes depend on the perspective, if you look INTO the straw, then there is 1 hole, but if you look at the sides, then there are 2

no, you do that

Nuh uh For example The word theory Means different things Between an official and unofficial context Same with hole
wise-white
wise-white9mo ago
your brain is a theory
fascinating-indigo
fascinating-indigo9mo ago
Or like chemical One that is true It's a theory about how smart it is
optimistic-gold
optimistic-gold9mo ago
that's why I said topologically
fascinating-indigo
fascinating-indigo9mo ago
Yea I don't care about topolo-whatever Hole is an opening
nousernamefound
nousernamefound9mo ago
technically since i can not verify wether or not he (or his brain) actually exists, true anyways this guy is clearly insane and should not be counted
optimistic-gold
optimistic-gold9mo ago
it's a study about objects and how they deform so about as accurate as it gets better than someone who said 0 actually that has some merit and makes some sense
wise-white
wise-white9mo ago
Enlighten me
optimistic-gold

wise-white
wise-white9mo ago
oh yeah
optimistic-gold
optimistic-gold9mo ago
that creates a hole but still
nousernamefound
nousernamefound9mo ago
some people might also not count it as a hole since its meant to be there
wise-white
wise-white9mo ago
i think its like the amount of holes there is supposed to be + the amount added
nousernamefound
nousernamefound9mo ago
jesus christ i can not figure out for the life of me how to get this eevee glass shader to act normally. anyways how many holes does it have

Nuh uh
correct-apricot
correct-apricot9mo ago
if you do it your way then its going to be almost impossible to count holes in a complicated object
fascinating-indigo
fascinating-indigo9mo ago
If you ask a person on the street what a chemical is And you ask a scientist what a chemical is You will get 2 very different answers If you ask (certain) mathematicians what a trapezoid is And a random person on the street what a trapezoid is You will get different answers It's the same with hole
correct-apricot
correct-apricot9mo ago
asking how many holes a straw has and getting 1 is both mathematicly correct and intuitively correct
fascinating-indigo
fascinating-indigo9mo ago
Nuh uh It's 2
correct-apricot
correct-apricot9mo ago
well this is 2 what's worse is the other person who voted infinity, (probably because of all the bumps in the straw material) that isn't counted
optimistic-gold
optimistic-gold9mo ago
yeah because a random person on the street is not as educated as the scientist and out of all things you could've choose, you chose 2 things that have a really solid definition
