Guide Button Chord Layout Has Disappeared
My ability to open the keyboard by pressing the Guide Button + X stopped working. I went to check the Guide Button layout and it's disappeared 😔

Make sure the controller is in xinput or switch input mode (if it supports it)
If it is in dinput mode you might need to configure it in steam (or it might just not support chords at all in dinput mode as I don't use it)
Also most controllers turn off when you hold the guide button so you can't hold it for longer than 1-2 seconds on some controllers
this is something that is happening also in my computer
with fully functional prior chords buttons

I did. I have created a VM with no controller and the option is present
The option is missing even when I have no controller active or connected
I miss the whole range of steam input controller options like playstation switch pro support etc
here is my VMs controller settings on bazzite

I even connected my xbox controller back to my Bazzite HTPC and removed the 8BitDo 2C controller. The options never came back
Either The 8bitdo driver is bugging the steam input part out or something else is happeneing and I have seen many people on reddit that have this problem with no solution :/
I connected the controller with BT on bazzite too. Same thing
Report it to valve as we do not develop steam, we have zero control over steam beyond adding or removing the

At worst you might hear a condition for why it does not show up
Going to write the issue now. I will also report back here when I have news for future reference.
Only thing I can think of is that it is related to the steamdeck flag which is required by the deck and htpc image
True. In the VM I use the desktop mode with no gamemode

-steamdeck to the steam launch commandso just launch steam from the terminal then?

It will use the steamdeck client but work in desktop mode
It's 2 separate clients
On the HTPC I have this problem on the desktop too not only gamemode
Because the htpc build also uses the steamdeck client
for desktop mode too right?
The steamdeck client is all of steam
You have normal steam for desktop images
Steamdeck steam for htpc/handheld/deck images
Because you can't use both or flip flop between them
stemadeck flag initiated the update so I guess its installing the deck version of the client ?

Also it removes all controller expanded options
The enable steam input for x controller? Yeah because it's enforced on the deck client

I have seens many people ask the same question about bazzite and people on redit just aswer I have it on mine

For future reference
-steamdeck flag does not support Guide Button Chord Layout profiles at all
It has a default one and thats its
even tho you can connect controllers to the steamdeck
Main problem here though is that if you open the steamdeck client when you used normal steam (or the other way around) you risk breaking steam and need to reset it
So can't really recommend any workaround for it 🙃

It's not immediate, but suddenly steam might just refuse to open and segfault
So you can either run Steam (no flag) or Steam with the -steamdeck flag
And the fix is to reset steam (reinstall it) and we have an ujust that does that and tries to keep as much data as possible

Yep and using both will eventually cause steam to segfault in the future

Ok how should I go documenting that behavior so we can add it to the steam FAQ?
I mean the part that -steamdeck flag is missing controller options like editing the guide button layout
for example on some controllers the keyboard with guide+X working
like my 8bitdo controllers
controller works FINE other than that
TBH I am just happy I know what the problem is for now haha
Because everywhere I searching for this issue I got gaslit that the controller input mode was at fault for missing the options!
