Translating social media posts

We're growing. We have more and more people who want to start a national / translated PauseAI group. We have @Maxime F (RationalHippy) who already started PauseIA. We have @Saftpackung working on PauseAI Germany. @Matěj Jaroš in Czech, @Jan-Erik Vinje in Norway.

For every language / country, it would be great to have a bunch of social media accounts. I think that we should do everything in our power to make this as easy as possible. PauseAI global should help, and provide resources:

Guides to set up social media accounts
Funding for ads
Materials that can be translated

It's this last one that I want to focus on a bit:

Translating news: We have our #comms-pipeline that contains a lot of ideas and discussions about #news-, where we turn that into posts. Perhaps we can link this to national organizers, somehow. How can we do this in a frictionless manner?
Translating other posts: we have a big log of posts on socials. How can we make it easier for national organizers to use these posts?

yeah I mean, I'm waiting for the multilingual website to be done before I start any socials in Spanish

This looks wonderfull. I think that it would be good if we created a single place where people could share their materials. It should be easily accessible and enable anyone to download these materials. It should be also easy to upload materials (while also preventing spam), and it should be organized in a way that would make it easy to find what you want and need, so rules like how to name files and posting videos/posts both with and without subtitles for easier translantion might be usefull.

This would also enable local groups to participate in global production pipeline, and multiply our ability to create materials in differnt languages, as local groups could simply add subtitles/dubbing to videos.

It is worth noting that whenewer we are going to use, it should be able to accept a lot of data, as video materials are going to take up a lot of storage.

And yeah, multilingual website would be very usefull. Ideally if it worked a bit like wikipedia, where you can simply switch between languages (of course random visitors would not be able to make changes). Local groups could simply translate few basic pages and start their movements.

The general plan for the main website localization (that is: language translation + other cultural differences) is for every text to be produced from English US source, localized by LLM as part of the build process for the website.

The key idea here is to break the usual manual review/curation/human edit path. If a particular target locale, or a particular English text, or particular localization of particular text produces a default result that is not high enough quality (wrong or misleading, for example) then the manual fix is an addition to the prompt that translates the text. Most fixes and overrides can then continue to apply when the source text changes.

(I'm pretty sure everyone will be working this way in coming years.)

Special case local websites can make whatever special pages they are prepared to maintain themselves, but link through/redirect to the main auto-localized website by default.

If this works well enough, plugging similar infrastructure into social media platforms is plausible but I wouldn't wait for it. The advantage is less, since almost all social media posts are written once and never change: so (assisted) one-time localization is more tenable.
