Legit check: Burberry coat
Hello! So I found this Burberry coat listed as a ladies coat and I wanted to see if A: it's a decent looking coat and B: to see if it's legit.

Aside from it being Burberry (or not) what makes this coat special to you?
Not much, but it does look alright
Personally I wouldn't buy someting if I thought "it does look alright"
I want to be excited to wear things I buy
Saaaam
Wasn't the plan to analyze a bunch of wayw highlights instead of going clothes shopping?
Yeah :bloberm:
I bet people are screaming at me right now I can tell :mood:
Nobody is screaming at you, just trying to help
don't worry, I was just playing up my exasperation 😄
I couldn't get it done in the morning because I spent that time getting ready for and going to uni, and then I thought it'd be interesting to see the 1 charity shop I haven't been to this week.
Aside anything anyone else has said, this looks boring and too small. Stop looking at brand names.
Ok
i find it hard to not look at brand names lol
Brand names are a secondary criterion at most.
First you need to know what you are looking for (i.e. a cropped denim jacket, or a bootcut jeans or whatever) - what brand a specific jacket is from is only secondary and purely instrumental. For example when I was looking for a cropped denim jacket I was primarily searching for Lee not because I wanted a Lee jacket, but because the trucker jackets made by Lee sometimes have a specific cut that I wanted to have.
The brand therefore was primarily instrumental. If that same jacket model was made by Wrangler I would have searched for wrangler jackets as well.
Different question (I need to get back to work, so my reply might be late):
Why do you like Burberry or Polo Ralph Lauren? And this is a completely genuine non-rhetorical question.
Brands can be useful if they do specific vibes and things you like that are difficult to find elsewhere. Or historically they have specific things like @Leo (Yakkeks) mentioned.
But when you're shopping second hand you're far better off just feeling stuff in your hands (does it feel nice) and trying it on to see how it looks (does it look good and fit in your wardrobe) than being guided by the brand on the shelf.
Ok. So I'll answer by means of each brand:
I found out about Burberry a couple of months ago. The check pattern looked interesting but I found something like a hat to be too expensive at retail. Then I got into Vinted and I remembered the brand so I searched it up and I was able to get a beanie for £50.
For Polo Ralph Lauren, I was given a pair of swimming trunks by my mum from the brand, and so I looked it up and it seemed to be a decently good brand. I also liked the logo, and so thats when I tried getting more PRL stuff.
So yeah, I think it's the brand recognision that they bring, but also the logos and, for Burberry, the check.
Well, to me that doesn’t sound like you’re wearing them for the brand recognition they bring you, but because you recognize the brand and that makes it easy to look and shop for.
Ok 🤔
I mean you’d know best, that’s just how I read it
yeah
it's the best answer i can give
:linkTired:
the other answer i think of is that i just like both brands
You don't seem to have any real interest in the brand other than it's 'good', from what you're saying
But good is really nebulous
I think it’s fine to have interest in brands for kinda historical or nostalgic reasons, just at the end of the day that won’t help when it comes to putting together the fits, and that’s what we’re trying to help you with. It’s likely that your style isn’t a 1 to 1 match with everything those brands make, so if you just see brand and buy, you will likely end up with a fair amount of clothing you don’t wear that much.
yeah :mood:
You’ll get there bud
:linkHeart:
As not disliked and jawn already pointed out, liking a brand is not super helpful for learning what kinds of clothes you like, but I still think there is something here: You said that you liked burberrys check. I would suggest that you could look at plaid/checked/tartan patterned garments and examine whether you just like the burberry check or whether you enjoy that kind of pattern in general. If its the latter you could start looking at specific garments like plaid shirts and see which ones you like. Just to suggest some kind of methodology to go from here.
Plaid flannel shirts for example go very well with double denim fits and would lean a bit more into that RL Westernwear adjacent thing.
Again, you don't need to do any of that. Finding out what you like is hard and we can not tell you what you like, but we can try to suggest ways to find out.
Jacket wise could also look at Barbour
Burberry sucks man. I'd just forget the brand even exists unless you're buying a classic trench or a scarf brand new.
Ok
