iOS app marks Recents as NOT on device after app reinstall

I'm a happy Immich user since at least 1 year from now. 1 week ago I noticed that the app on iOS came with 6GB of data. I guess that it was due to many interrupted upload attempts when I was in Vietnam with unstable internet connection. So, since all my recents media album was fully uploaded to my synology NAS, I decided to uninstall and reinstall the application. Unfortunately, even if all the content is retrieved and shown correctly (timeline, etc), all the photos from Recents have the empty cloud icon, meaning the they are in the server but not found on the device (which is not, I can confirm obv). If I go to the library section, the only album shown under "On my device" is the "Whatsapp" album, which, again, is not true. The photos and videos that you see in the image with the cloud with the tick, are the ones that resides on my device, but under the Whatsapp album. I tried pretty much every settings available on the mobile app and the server, without success. I really don't know where to look.

Troubleshooting steps: I tried to clear cached data, and reinstall multiple times, even after phone reboot. And pretty much every combination of settings both on the mobile app and on the server-side. Also, I tried running all the jobs, just in case. No recent changes, just deleted and re-installed the application

Can you check permission? see if you give the app full permission
Matteo Giordano

Given the app full access to the library, as well as background update and everything

so all of the photos are uploaded and in the timeline, some of the photos are supposed to have a check mark but are not, correct?
Matteo Giordano
Matteo GiordanoOP5mo ago
Yes, before the uninstall-reinstall all the photos had the check mark, as expected If I take a new photo, it slowly appear into immich, it is detected as new, and it id backed up, BUT no check mark again If I take or save a pic from whatsapp instead, it is recognised, uploaded and then the symbol is with checkmark meaning that I have full control on that content from the immich app (e.g., If I Want to delete it from immich)

Can you delete the app and reinstall again? after that, select the recent album for backup. Then on the Photos page, wait a bit until the initial hashing of your library is done (circular spinner) at the bottom

Ok, doing now
Matteo Giordano

That spinner, right?

Correct

Ok, apparently that was the trick. In my previous attempts I just didn’t let this process end, or just didn’t let it to complete with the app open. However, how is possible that 26GB are used on the local device?

What data does Immich need to store on device?
Alex Tran
Alex Tran5mo ago
Yes, if you are using iCloud and have optimized storage turned on. Immich will need to pull them down to work correctly
Matteo Giordano
Matteo GiordanoOP5mo ago
And duplicate them together with Photo itself?
Alex Tran
Alex Tran5mo ago
No, it should not be duplicated
