Uploading certain files separately to folders
hey guys how do i make immich to upload specific files separately on the server?
i dont mean to organize them into albums, i mean to put them in actual separate folders.
my camera photos are being uploaded to server/photos/library/admin/year/month/image.jpg and thats great, but all of the other files are being uploaded same way too and i dont like that.
i want some of the folders on my phone (like screenshots for example) to be uploaded like this server/photos/library/admin/screenshots/year/image.jpg
how do i do that?
i have immich installed as a docker container on unraid server, if this is important.
thanks.

If this ticket can be closed you can use the /close
command, and re-open it later if needed. You can use the storage template to sort by album name
You can’t use a different template for different files
can you direct me to a guide on how to do that?
and will that put the photos in separate folders based on albums?
so this is what i need?
{{album}}/{{y}}/{{MM}}/{{filename}}
If you would like AlbumName/2022/09/FileName then yes
i'm so confused now. i did that and SOME of the files uploaded correctly, but not all of them
some still went to /library/admin/year/month/file
i completely deleted averything. cleared files. albums. everything.
and then I just selected one folder on my phone to upload with 5 items in it. 4 went to /library/album/year/month and one went to /library/year/month
this is what i want to upload

and on the server it created folder with album name and also folder with year

there are 4 of those 5 files in AdobeLightroom folder and only one of them in 2024
this was completely empty before. manually deleted everything. immich created both of those folders.
You may need to look at the server logs and see if any errors show up in there when trying to move it. Does that photo show up in the correct album when looking in immich ui?
yes
immich shows up all 5 of those in same album
but the actual files are in separate folders on server
Yes I understand. Can you run the storage template migration job and send the immich server logs after, to see if anything shows up in there
oh
i didnt know about that
now its fixed
It was moved to the correct folder?
but what will happen to future uploads?
or why didnt that one file go to that folder in the beginning?
yes it did
Strange. I am unsure why it wasn't upon upload. When you deleted everything did you clear the trash as well?
yes. everything. trash too.
i should try adding few more photos now and see what happens
Hmm. I would keep an eye on it then, and try and add some more
how frequently does that storage template migration job take place?
i just imported one file and it went to correct folder, then i did another one and it still was wrong 😄
I am not sure at which piont in runs in the pipeline but it runs after metadata extraction, it needs the information from the photo metadata to organize it. Any logs from server?
idk what to look for here

All seems fine I think. It still is in the wrong location? And if you run the job again it gets moved?
yes
again
same thing happened
uploaded bunch more, like 6 or 7
and 2 of them went to wrong folder
then i ran the migration job and its fixed now
these were the logs

I am unsure why it's only partially working. You verified there are no jobs running before checking the folder structure?
hey, sorry for bothering, followup question. what happens if i have one photo in two albums? will immich copy it to separate folders?
yes, nothing was running afaik

thanks
