Display device photos and choose which ones to back up in Android app

Hey! Wanted to ask if it's possible to do something similar as in google photos with the Android app. In google photos, you see your whole gallery and can select a few and press on "back up" so they are saved into google photos cloud. Now, I'd like to do something similar with Immich, but as far as I can see, only way to back up stuff is by going to the top right and selecting an album from the phone to back up. And as I understand, Immich would create a new album with that name and put all the pictures in there. The thing is on my phone I don't really separate in albums. I just have an all photos "album" that I don't really want to completely back up, since half of the photos there are shitty pictures and gifs I receive on whatsapp and so on. What's the proper way to back up just a few selected photos, without enabling auto-backup on the app? In the web it's easy, I just go to "Upload" and it's done.

The backup selection in the top right is separate from enabling the auto backup So just select stuff and don't enable the backup setting Then you should be able to upload them individually from the gallery

When opening the immich app, all the photos I see are the ones I have on my immich server. I dont see the ones in my phone (that aren't backed up) So there's no way to select the photos on my phone and back them up to immich In my phone gallery I dont have any option to backup to immich and the immich gallery doesnt show unbacked photos. As a workaround for now, I've created a non-immich Album on my android gallery. Making immich backup files in that album, and then I select the photos I want and add them to the album. But this seems to break the dates, and add all the metadata (dates) to the same day of the immich upload, instead of the photo date

Select albums for backup in Immich, without enabling foreground or background backup. This will index the media from those albums to be displayed in Immich. Now you can select the local media from your main timeline, long press them and upload them to Immich individually, without uploading the entire album

It does work, but sadly the dates are set as the upload date, instead of the date the photo was taken. The same exact photos uploaded through the web interface don't have this issue.

Shouldn’t be the case, Can you confirm whether you have enabled location permission to the Immich app? Few vendor / android specific devices require this to get the complete EXIF information from the media file

It's allowed all the time. But I don't have location ON, unless I'm driving. I'm not sure my phone saves the date as exif data though. But in any case these pictures were received from an iphone on whatsapp

WhatsApp strips almost all metadata , this isn’t surprising You say “the exact same photos” but I assume these were not sent through WhatsApp and thus are not the exact same
