How to bulk modify creation dates?

I installed immich a couple hours ago and started syncing from my phone, but i noticed that all my whatsapp received before a certain date is being stored as if they were created on that date (i.e.: everything before 30/05/2024 is being said to have been made on 30/05/2024). I assume it happened as a consequence of a whatsapp backup or something. luckily whatsapp media has its sent(or received, idk tbh) date in its filename. Is there any way for me to bulk change the creation dates based on the files' filenames? Uploading just finished and its 5am so im going to bed 🫡 💤 🛌 , so 'ill respond once i wake up

Maybe i chose to wrong channel to ask because its not a issue with immich, rather a 'cry' for help

https://www.reddit.com/r/immich/comments/1dvjpk4/made_a_little_exiftools_script_to_fix_whatsapp/ 👀 Of course this will 'break' immich because the exif data changed You can then fix your breaking things by running the "extract metadata" job on all assets

Are you using storage templating?
Pièrre

i don't know, i installed the latest version 13 hours ago and just went with the defaults

Probably not then, https://immich.app/docs/administration/storage-template/ assuming you've uploaded as albums, if you switch to album based templating and run the storage migration job it will place all whatsapp files in an album that will correspond to a folder on the server

i did this now but i realised it put it in {{y}}/{{album}}, is there a incentive for this? is it okay if i just do {{album}} (and then a Other/{{y}}/{{MM}})? also i checked the files that showed up on the wrong date, but in the terminal (with command ll) it shows the correct date? i guess this
It always bothered me that WhatsApp-received images and videos have no date on the exif info besides the date the actual file was created/modified.
answers that for me question though, how do i stop the immich container? im not familiar with docker and im scared i'll break something
