Immich + editing photos using native phone app

Hi!
I have a problem in the following usage scenario:

I go out and do a series of photos on my iPhone
When I get back home, those photos are automatically synced to immich (backgroud, without launching the app). So far so good...
I do some edits using a native iOS photo viewer - mostly crops and some alignments
After a while (after another instance of background sync, or sometimes manual sync) I load the app and see the following state:
an edited photo appears in two instances: one with a crossed cloud icon (not synced to cloud), another with empty cloud icon (synced but not on the device) - see screenshot attached
Both are the same and both are after edit.
How can I leave one edited version with "checked cloud" icon? And most of all do this automatically.

Using "sync to cloud" button on a photo with crossed cloud icon does nothing. It tells me "upload ok", but nothing changes - there are still two instances of this photo with the same icons.
Using "download" button on a photo with empty cloud icon creates a second instance of the same photo on my phone. So it's not a great way to deal with this problem.

To be clear, this does not happen always, sometimes there's only one version as intended. But I can't seem to understand what leads to this outcome.

I understand that probably Immich would want me to edit directly in the immich app, but honestly native iOS app is way better in this and after latests updates got lots of new AI features so it's hard to stop using it for quick editing.
