Heroic Games Doesn't Launch The Games. This is my last hope.
Hello, I am kinda a stranger to this place but they said Discord might help me, so here I am.
I am on Linux Mint. Using a laptop that has iGpu and dGpu.
I download a game, click the play button, it says it's starting and boom, nothing happens. No error, no sound. I've tried to reinstall the Launcher, reinstalling the Nvidia drivers, downgradig the drivers, configuring settings... nothing changed, then I changed some settings to check if it might magically work. Nothing.
Cpu - i9-12900HX
dGpu - Nvidia 4080 Mobile
Any ideas? How can I fix the problem?

To help you, we need a game log. Please see the following images on how to get it.

share the logs as explained in that last message, and also read https://discord.com/channels/812703221789097985/1044301598018515105

I'll share the logs
I've already done the thing with flatpak
https://0x0.st/8oXr.log
There
Sent the logs, do you mind taking a look, please?
absent-sapphire•5mo ago
no need to ask, we see things when we have time
ratty-blushOP•5mo ago
Okay, cool, thank you
absent-sapphire•5mo ago
try this:
- install the latest proton-ge using the wine manager in heroic
- go to settings (in the sidebar) > advanced > enable the umu experimental feature
- go to the game's settings and select the latest proton-ge
- delete this folder
/home/cem/Games/Heroic/Prefixes/default/Arise A Simple Story
(note it's the prefix and not the game install)
- run the game again
if it still fails, share a new logratty-blushOP•5mo ago
Sadly didn't work again

New log
I just can't seem to make games work on dGpu, some games opens on iGpu with very poor performance (just saying in case the information might be uselful to you)
However I can see my driver when I run the command called nvidia-smi
correct-apricot•5mo ago
what's the version?
ratty-blushOP•5mo ago
565.77
correct-apricot•5mo ago
please do not ping me
what's the flatpak version?
ratty-blushOP•5mo ago
I apologize
correct-apricot•5mo ago
driver version
ratty-blushOP•5mo ago
How to check flatpak version?
correct-apricot•5mo ago
flatpak list | grep nvidia
ratty-blushOP•5mo ago
One moment
When I type the command nothing happend?
correct-apricot•5mo ago
try again, i had the N capitalized
ratty-blushOP•5mo ago
nvidia-565-77 org.freedesktop.Platform.GL.nvidia-565-77 1.4 system
nvidia-565-77 org.freedesktop.Platform.GL32.nvidia-565-77 1.4 system
correct-apricot•5mo ago
great, that matches
add these to the game's environment variables and run it again
WINEDEBUG=+fixme
DXVK_LOG_LEVEL=info
VKD3D_DEBUG=fixme
also try with the dedicated gpu
setting onratty-blushOP•5mo ago
Okay, one moment
It's been on already but okay
correct-apricot•5mo ago
it shows off in your logs
correct-apricot•5mo ago

correct-apricot•5mo ago
make sure that's ticked
ratty-blushOP•5mo ago
I've turned it on from main settings but somehow it's closed on this game, interesting

No luck
New logs are here
correct-apricot•5mo ago
not the launcher args, the environment variables
ratty-blushOP•5mo ago
Ooo
Alright
I am sorry
I am a noob
correct-apricot•5mo ago
i don't mind

I assume I've put the codes on the correct spot now
Seems like video games don't like me
correct-apricot•5mo ago
they're in the right spot
it's probably ntdll nonsense
to be clear, did you delete the prefix?
ratty-blushOP•5mo ago
Yes, I did, then I selected the latest proton as compability app
I just don't know what I am doing wrong at this point
absent-sapphire•5mo ago
I wonder what happens if you use something not flatpak, like the .deb or .appImage (you'll have to re-login and import the game)
just to try
ratty-blushOP•5mo ago
I'll try that, one moment
correct-apricot•5mo ago
as a side, it wouldn't hurt to run this
flatpak update && flatpak install --reinstall com.heroicgameslauncher.hgl
doubt it would solve anything but it wouldn't hurtratty-blushOP•5mo ago
I've run this just before I've opened this topic for help 🥹
correct-apricot•5mo ago
great
ratty-blushOP•5mo ago
I don't know how and and when but my dGpu was here to be seen a moment ago
I've installed the .deb version
Tickted the use dGpu line
Game worked but on my iGpu
And somehow it made my dGpu disappear
even nvtop can't see it
When I type nvidia-smi it says Unable to determine the device handle for GPU0000:01:00.0: Unknown Error
It's been not doing that until a little while back
correct-apricot•5mo ago
do you have the proprietary driver installed? that's very much recommended for nvidia
ratty-blushOP•5mo ago
I've added this ppa
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa
Which as far as I know should be Ubuntu's
correct-apricot•5mo ago
mint has a driver manager for this, use the proprietary one
ratty-blushOP•5mo ago
And then from driver center that mint has I've installed nvidia-driver-565/noble,now 565.77-0ubuntu0~gpu24.04.1 amd64
absent-sapphire•5mo ago
have you restarted after the gpu disappeared?
ratty-blushOP•5mo ago
Not yet, would you like me to?
absent-sapphire•5mo ago
I would try that if for some reason the gpu driver disappeared haha
at least to be sure the gpu shows up again
ratty-blushOP•5mo ago
I've been trouble shooting this problem for hours at this pont, I guess I am just too tired to react
correct-apricot•5mo ago
i get that feeling
just do one step at a time and report back
absent-sapphire•5mo ago
there could be something off with the driver if you say the igpu works and now it suddenly disappeared, maybe the driver needs a newer kernel or something? (I know mint tends to have older kernels, I use a PPA to get a newer kernel myself)
ratty-blushOP•5mo ago
Rebooting doesn't go well, it's taking way long than it supposed to be, I am gonna force close it
I've done the new kernel installation
I am on the lates that Mint allows
Force closed and reopened
Yeap now it sees my dGpu
It just tiring to encounter unsolvable problems every single time, even the tiniest adjustment or app breaks or doesn't work, I like that Linux is being lightweight and source friendly but this is exhausting
I just want to "just works" experience on linux
absent-sapphire•5mo ago
nvidia is known to have had issues with linux, not the best GPU for out of the box good experience, I read there's still issues with nvidia and wayland after many many years
ratty-blushOP•5mo ago
I can accept issues
But not working is not an issue
It's not working
absent-sapphire•5mo ago
I mean, they had issues like things not working at all, I'm using issues as a broad term
but I can imgine the frustration
ratty-blushOP•5mo ago
I used to have a 1650 ti laptop, linux experience wasn't that bad on that machine
absent-sapphire•5mo ago
sorry I don't know what else to try (not an nvidia user myself), I'm sure other users will see this thread and they can suggest other things to try
ratty-blushOP•5mo ago
Okay, thank you for the effort, both of you
I guess I would like to sleep, it would be healthy for me to continue later
By the way would you recommend Zorin OS or Fedora?
Even tho Mint's known by stability I think it's not that stable on my pc
absent-sapphire•5mo ago
haven't use any of those, I've been using mint for the last... 7/8 years
The few times I've seen Zorin here, people were running into issues due to some ancient repos/packages
If you're looking for recommendations, run Nobara, EndeavourOS, or (if you're just planning on gaming) Bazzite
ratty-blushOP•5mo ago
Hello, reporting again
It seems like the issue was caused by Nvidia drivers
I don't know why and how but at least proton latest works after fresh install of Linux Mint
I hope this helps to someone
But sadly
Wine-ge still doesn't launch a game from on my dGpu
I'll paste the log, on second
https://0x0.st/8HrL.log
There is the log
@arieljuod I hope it's okay to tag you, can you take a look the last log if your available?
You don't actually want "Use dedicated Graphics Card" enabled. Anything running in DirectX (and thus using DXVK/VKD3D-Proton) will automatically do that, and enabling the option in Heroic can actually cause issues
