Can no longer access to postgres after system upgrade

I finally had time to upgrade the immich to the latest version, however, I was unable to use it at all. I looked around on this board and it seems a postgres password issue. I did not touch my .env filie at all since everything is running locally. I have tried to exec to the postgres from the Terminal (on mac) and ALTEREd the password but still no luck. I also tried to restore the instance from a backup and still the same error. #.env The location where your uploaded files are stored UPLOAD_LOCATION=/Volumes/Work/Photos/immich THUMB_LOCATION=/Volumes/Work/Photos/immich/thumbs ENCODED_VIDEO_LOCATION=/Volumes/Work/Photos/immich/encoded-video PROFILE_LOCATION=/Volumes/Work/Photos/immich/profile The location where your database files are stored DB_DATA_LOCATION=./postgres To set a timezone, uncomment the next line and change Etc/UTC to a TZ identifier from this list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tz_database_time_zones#List TZ=Etc/UTC The Immich version to use. You can pin this to a specific version like "v1.71.0" IMMICH_VERSION=release Connection secret for postgres. You should change it to a random password Please use only the characters A-Za-z0-9, without special characters or spaces DB_PASSWORD=xxx The values below this line do not need to be changed ################################################################################### DB_USERNAME=postgres DB_DATABASE_NAME=immich

How exactly did you try to ALTER the password?
pekflyer
pekflyerOP•4mo ago
I used this command from the support site: ALTER USER <DB_USERNAME> WITH ENCRYPTED PASSWORD 'newpasswordhere'; and then changed it in my env too

Did you rebuild the container after altering the password?
pekflyer
pekflyerOP•4mo ago
sorry what do you mean by rebuilding? runing docker compose up? or pull?
Tempest

After I ran the above commands I got the following logs:

You wouldn't happen to have that log in more than 1 line would you?
pekflyer

Sorry about that, not sure why it became one line

have you tried the default password? docker inspect immich_postgres | grep PASSWORD should yield whatever password the environment thinks you're using

Let me try Thanks Mraedis I got the password that I applied to all .env files but the errors are still the same.

any chance you have the db dumps at UPLOAD_LOCATION/backups ?
pekflyer
pekflyerOP•4mo ago
my db dump file is on one drive, with the app and db, my upload location is on an external drive

Do you feel comfortable restoring to a date that still worked? https://immich.app/docs/administration/backup-and-restore/
pekflyer
pekflyerOP•4mo ago
I tried that, but I still cannot access to the database I can try again

Mraedis•4mo ago
So you tried it and it still had the wrong password 🤔 That's bizarre to say the least I am not 100% sure, but I think you don't even need the same password for a restore

hmm would it be something else? like why it is kept getting cannot connec to database error
