Question about Reverse Geocoding Language Support
Hey Immich team,
I noticed that the location data from Reverse Geocoding comes back in English by default. Is there a way to set a language for the location data, like using the lang parameter (for example, to get results in Chinese)?
It’d be really useful for users who prefer seeing location names in their native language!
Thanks for the great work on Immich!

I have...
1. :ballot_box_with_check: verified I'm on the latest release(note that mobile app releases may take some time).
2. :ballot_box_with_check: read applicable release notes.

7. :blue_square: tried an incognito window, disabled extensions, cleared mobile app cache, logged out and back in, different browsers, etc. as applicable

Currently the names are loaded from a third party database, it is impossible to translate. I do believe there is work on migrating to a different way of working that will allow for other languages. 🙂
Thanks for explaining. I noticed the GeoNames API has a lang parameter for specifying language. Have you considered using it?
I don't know the details of the upcoming rework, so maybe they have? I'm not a dev. 😛
I understand. Could you please forward this suggestion to the development team? Or, where would be the best place (e.g., GitHub Issues or Discussions) for me to suggest this?
I'll tag in @Zack but he's probably asleep so don't expect any response soon 😄
Oop. Hope I didn't wake you there buddy
Thank you
We don't actually use their api
We just load a piece of the data locally
Like Mraedis mentioned, we have improvements planned here
Understood, thank you
The improved method should have the ability to be localized, though that likely won't come in the first pass
But there's also no ETA on that feature in general right now
