You might be in the wrong place for support, but https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/gaming/proton/#_enable_proton_engine
Even if you're not on Fedora, that should be generic enough steps to enable and use Proton for your Windows games on Linux.

every game ive tried launching from steam doesnt start but if i add the exe in heroic launcher it works
is there any way to fix the steam version
complex-teal•5mo ago
How did you install Steam?
xenial-blackOP•5mo ago
off the official website
idk if thats what you meant
multiple-amethyst•5mo ago
your OS should ship a steam package
use that.

There also needs to be a bit more information needed. What folder or drive did you install to, for example.

That drive isn’t NTFS or exfat is it?
xenial-blackOP•5mo ago
thats where my games are
its NTFS
complex-teal•5mo ago
There’s your answer
xenial-blackOP•5mo ago
why does it work through heroic launcher instead of just steam
complex-teal•5mo ago
Is heroic putting the prefix on
~/Games/Heroic
?xenial-blackOP•5mo ago
the wine prefix yes
complex-teal•5mo ago
Steam by default puts prefixes on the same drive as the games. Prefixes don’t work on NTFS or exfat
You need to take precautions to put the prefix onto the Linux compatible file system
Unofficially, there’s info on the Proton GitHub wiki
complex-teal•5mo ago
You need to symlink the compatdata folder https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/wiki/Using-a-NTFS-disk-with-Linux-and-Windows

It’s still not recommended to use NTFS, but this is a workaround

okok, all the games i want to play are under 10g so ill just double install on my ext4 drive and test if it works
