Unable to Play Episode 1 & 2 in Half Life 2

Whenever i try to play the episode 1 of half life i get a black screen and this error.

heroic doesnt play steam games, play it through steam

Assuming you have Heroic installed, navigate to "Settings" (sidebar) -> "System Information" and select "Copy to clipboard". Then paste the info into here

silly question but just to check you are running the linux version of the game, i ask as a friend of mine slected proton not realising and it wouldnt launch for him
