Can I update EXIF data of files in the Immich Library?
To fix some incorrect metadata, I want to change the EXIF data of files already in the immich library. Can I safely edit EXIF data within these files, or will this cause some kind of error in Immich?
I'm planning to do this edit using ExifTool, but the question is a general one.

I have...

Editing the files directly isn't supported, but you can have exiftool write to XMP sidecar files and then have Immich scan for those
and if I want to add some Metadata to my local photos (using EXIFtool), before uploading them to immich, would you suggest I store it in XMP sidecar files or as embedded EXIF?
I gota lot of metadata from a GPhotos takeout, as "json sidecar" files. @bo0tzz

immich-go doesn't help to add EXIF data or XMP sidecars to locally stored images.
I'm working outside of immich, and finally I'll upload it there.
immich-go is the recommended way to deal with a google takeout
It handles the json files
hmm.. but it doesn't help here.
Very very very new guy here. But I edited some photos with an exif tool outside of immich, then proceeded to import the directory with images and files using immich-go and I see my local photos in immich with my modified data.
I literally just got here to the discord and saw this question. And I hope I'm of some help and not just speaking out of turn or knowledge. Feel free to let me know if I'm wrong so I can learn.
@DandyAndy yeah that's what I'm trying to do as well. I want some of the data in the json to permanently stay embedded in those photos. Such as timezone, datetime, maybe location and description too.
What changes did you make? And with exiftool, I'm guessing?
